As part of our new Mental Health Strategy, EMAS has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiasticapplicant to join our Quality Directorate as a Mental Health Development Lead to support the delivery of quality care to our patients experiencing Mental Health crisis.

East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EMAS) provides emergency and urgent services for 4.8 million people, covering approximately 6,452 square miles across the East Midlands in Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Rutland, Nottinghamshire, and Northamptonshire.

A total of 3,983 people is employed at 70 facilities, including ambulance stations, community ambulance stations (smaller facilities, often shared buildings with other organisations allowing our crews to 'stand-by' in strategic locations in-between responses to 999 calls), two Emergency Operations Centres, training and support team offices and fleet workshops.

Approximately 12% of on scene presentations are currently of a primary clinical diagnosis of mental health. We are looking for someone who wants to improve the service received and enhance quality care by supporting both front line crews and the wider EMAS Mental Health Strategy.

Main duties of the job

EMAS are undertaking a Mental Health Strategy with a vision to improve the services experienced by those in mental health crisis in line with NHS Long Term Plan ambitions. This role will undertake training of front-line staff during real time working in managing patients with mental health crisis/presentations following receipt of a "Train the Trainer" Mental Health Package.

The Mental Health Development Lead will also be a point of contact for system wide partners on progressing the Mental Health Strategy alongside the EMAS Mental Health Strategic Lead. It is anticipated that the role will require 60% of the role's time for front line training with 40% for supporting the wider system strategy.

Provide training, development, and assessment for clinical staff to the standards as set out during training delivered to the Mental Health Development Leads via a Train the Trainer Model.

Participate in and support clinical audit activities as required.

Maintain professional registration where applicable and continue to professionally develop within national and local guidelines in order to deliver patient care to professional standards.

To provide mentoring and where appropriate facilitation to front line emergency workers.

Work in locality to provide mentoring, training and supervision to various members of staff to cover identified skills gaps.

When requested produce written reports for internal and external meetings/publications on a range of Mental Health issues.

Provide assessment and remedial training for members of the Trust following referrals from other directorates.

Provide feedback on evaluation to the Mental Health Strategic Lead to ensure quality monitoring and screening of the training process.

Take part in activities, which will lead to personal and / or team growth.

Contribute to the clinical and operational development of longer-term plans, the Mental Health Strategy and decision making.

Support the delivery of improvements in regional and divisional mental health pathways and projects to enable improved patient care and enhanced quality of service provision.

To monitor clinical and quality performance within their area of responsibility and take corrective action as required, to sustain and improve performance.

Be a divisional representative with external stakeholders as part of the wider EMAS Mental Health Strategy.

  • HCPC State Registered Paramedic OR Registered Nurse OR Registered Allied Health Professional
  • Portfolio of CPD evidence showing commitment to personal development.
  • Willingness to undertake any training deemed necessary for the fulfilment of duties
  • Clinical degree

Desirable

  • Teaching Qualification / Assessing Qualification
  • Knowledge of Ambulance Service and Mental Health
  • Robust evidence of experience and understanding of the wider health care system management

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years clinical/operational experience
