Job summary
The post will be part time post, and working alongside another substantive consultant, Dr Natalia Wielgosz (0.6 WTE)The BAU has its base at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, Beckenham, and has an integrated hospital school. There is a multidisciplinary team, comprising nursing staff, a clinical psychologist, social worker, occupational therapist and teachers. The medical staff consists of another part time Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, a Specialist resident doctor 4-6 and a Core resident doctor 1-3. BAU is based on Tyson East 1 ward at the Bethlem Royal Hospital. TE1 has 12 inpatient beds suitable for young people aged between 12 to 18 years, and up to 3 day patient places. It is an open adolescent inpatient unit, offering mental health care for adolescents (12-17 years) with serious mental illness who present in crisis and require hospital admission.The consultant role involves clinical and medical leadership for both the MDT and junior medical staff. This involves direct assessment of all admissions, formulation of treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT, liaison with other agencies (both clinical and non clinical), supervision of junior medical staff, chairing of meetings with both clinical and non clinical agenda, and facilitating discharge through the CPA process.

- Non car drivers can access transport for essential clinical journeys. Travel expenses for essential clinical journeys are paid for by the service
- Study leave can be requested through the Trust study leave procedures in accordance with the contractual entitlement of 30 days study and professional leave with pay and expenses within each three-year period.
- The successful candidate will be assisted in joining a peer group. There is a large consultant body and a range of peer groups which can cater to specific areas of interest, and well as general requirements for CPD. There is an expectation they will register/be registered with the RCPsych CPD submissions service and maintain a Certificate of Good Standing.
