Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist

Job summary

This is a fixed term 8 session consultant liaison psychiatrist post at St Thomas' Hospital. This post is with the working age team and has come about as a result of a substantive consultant taking on a secondment opportunity. It is made up of 6 DCC sessions across Monday to Wednesday and 2 SPA sessions on a Thursday.

Main duties of the job

To provide senior clinical leadership to the working age liaison psychiatry team, offering assessments and treatment to patients under the care of St Thomas' Hospital, either in the Emergency Department or the inpatient wards.

About us

The employing organisation is South London and the Maudsley Mental Health Foundation Trust. The post holder will work alongside the other liaison consultant psychiatrists and the MDT at STH, as well as trust wide forums. The post holder has the option of joining the Lambeth consultant on call rota and is entitled to study leave.

Qualifications

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • Experience of non-liaison specialties such as addictions or inpatient.

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with GMC with a licence to practice
  • Evidence of inclusion in the specialist register
  • Approved Clinician (or able to achieve this within 3 months)

Desirable

  • Accreditation in liaison psychiatry or experience working as a liaison consultant

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Able to manage complexity and uncertainty

Desirable

  • Evidence of a range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to liaison psychiatry

Academic Skills and Lifelong Learning

Essential

  • Able to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Able to work in and lead a team
