You will be an Outpatient Nurse responsible for assessing and treating patients with an eating disorder. You will have a caseload of patients and provide physical monitoring.

Main duties of the job
You will be part of the daily duty rota for the service, which involves screening and managing new referrals, fielding telephone queries and supporting the team where necessary.
You will work with other colleagues from Day Services and Eating Disorders Outpatients. You will provide training, consultation and liaison service for other healthcare professionals both within and outside the Trust.

The Eating Disorder Unit (EDU) is internationally renowned for providing best practice, evidence-based care for adults with the full range of eating disorder difficulties. Outpatient treatments include guided self-help, group and individual interventions. We are the developers of MANTRA, now recommended as part of NICE 2017 guidelines for the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, and of FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders).
We offer opportunities for ongoing training and collaboration with colleagues across the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences at King's College London.

Essential
- Registered Nurse (RMN or RN) with current NMC registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development beyond Trust directed mandatory training
Desirable
- Post-registration training or certification in areas relevant to eating disorders (e.g., CBT-E, MANTRA, physical health competencies)
- Evidence of leadership or mentorship training.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 24 months post-registration experience, gained within a mental-health or integrated physical-health setting (inpatient, community, or day service)
- Demonstrates the ability to carry out thorough biopsychosocial assessments and develop clear, evidence-based formulations that inform care planning and treatment interventions.
- Experience in risk assessment, management, and escalation relating to both physical and mental-health deterioration
- Experience of providing psychologically-minded nursing care or psychologically informed interventions, and a willingness to develop further skills in this area through supervision and training
Desirable
- Experience working within an Eating-Disorders service or caring for individuals with disordered eating in another clinical setting
- Experience supporting patients and carers with education, engagement, and recovery planning around treatment adherence and physical health
Knowledge
Essential
- Sound understanding of eating-disorder presentations and their physical-health implications, including refeeding risk and cardiac instability
- Awareness of common mental-health conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma-related and presentations related to complex emotional needs)
- Knowledge of clinical governance, audit, and quality-improvement frameworks within healthcare services/clinical settings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, professional correspondence and clinical documentation

- Awareness of motivational and engagement approaches used in supporting patients with ambivalence toward recovery
- Understanding of group-facilitation principles in supportive or psychoeducational settings
