South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

Phlebotomist

The closing date is 18 November 2025

Job summary

SLAM has an exciting opportunity for an experienced part time phlebotomist to join our team within Pathology, Phlebotomy and Point of Care Testing (PoCT). This is a key post within our department, and you will play a significant role working with the deputy phlebotomy manager in improving access to point of care testing and phlebotomy for our inpatients, outpatient, and community services.

We are a progressive department where individuals are actively encouraged to support the continual improvement of our services and development of themselves. We have a strong research ethos and staff will be involved in supporting research within the Trust.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in mental health and a demonstrable record in phlebotomy and ideally with paediatric patients. A strong knowledge of point of care testing would be of benefit. You will ideally be registered with the phlebotomy association. However, if you have not and are willing to develop into this role then we would still be interested in hearing from you.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy staff interact with our patients daily performing venepuncture and point of care testing using capillary bloods and running point of care testing devices. Delivering the day-to-day provision of high quality, effective and efficient service and ensuring appropriate usage of POCT testing in support of the Head of pathology, phlebotomy and point of care testing services.

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day sample collection and processing of POCT, ensuring IQC processes are adhered to and maintain quality standards and general service provision expectations to all users.

Candidates will need to have a 'can-do' attitude, be enthusiastic, well-motivate and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities. This should be supported by well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individuals and wider team.

The successful candidate will be employed directly by SLAM and will be required to work across all Trust sites as required. This is an on-site post and not suitable for remote working.

The post holder will be expected to be flexible on the site that they work on (Maudsley, Lewisham, Lambeth and Bethlem Hospital).
