Job summary
South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking to recruit a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for the North Focussed Support Team. This is an integrated medium to long-term support service - comprising clinical, social care and voluntary sector staff - that provides multidisciplinary assessment and support. Embedded in local communities and developing strong links to the local Primary Care Networks, the team to support people to recover, stay well, make their own choices and participate in the community.
Along with the co-consultants and senior colleagues in the North Living Well Centre, the post holder will co-lead the team which is multi-disciplinary and comprised with both conventional and new workforce.
The team normally has 11-13 new referrals per month, among which approximately half of them are eventually accepted and transferred to the team. The team discharge about 5-10 patients per month on average to the primary care or another team within or out of the borough. The overall caseload for the team is around 270-280 patients, for which the post holder will share responsibilities for oversight of care by the co-consultant. There are 2-4 urgent assessments per week with the duty team and a doctor within the service or care coordinator for the patient in crisis. The post holder will carry out 7-8 scheduled reviews per week, which are a combination of CPA reviews and medical reviews.
Main duties of the job
The main clinical duties are to provide senior medical input as consultant psychiatrist / ApprovedClinician with the co-consultant for the patients treated under the North Focussed Support Team, and to be part of the joint senior leadership for the team and North Living Well Centre. There is reciprocal Approved Clinician cover including under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act for the leave, study leave and sickness of senior medical staff in Lambeth during working hours.
The post holder will provide out-of-hour senior medical input as per the Lambeth consultant on-call rota (1:24) with a category 'B' 1% banding supplement.
As for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, one full-time ST is placed in the team; one of the co-consultant is currently their Clinical Supervisor. There are year 3 medical students of King's College London allocated to the team for their longitudinal placements.

The LWNA is the first Alliance in the country to provide whole system mental health care for working age adults with innovation,co-production and populations needs at the centre of service development and delivery. The post holder will take advantage of all the opportunities of innovative service development, quality improvement and management / leadership development in the LWNA as well as within the Trust. There are ample opportunities for educational and academic roles and collaborations as SLaM is part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre and also the only mental health trust in the UK to have our own biomedical research centre, hosted jointly with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at King's College London.
