Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, supportive, and dynamic multidisciplinary inpatient service serving South London and Maudsley and the successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Administrator, Administrator, Ward Manager, Business Manager and other team members, providing top-tier housekeeping support.The postholder will work as an integral part of the ward team and be responsible for the coordination of all client facilities services in the ward area ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
The main elements of the role are ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of cleaning, catering, maintenance, laundry, together with other specified tasks to meet individual client needs as determined by the ward manager/shift co-ordinator.
The post-holder will need to collaborate closely with contractors, as well as the estate and facilities departments and catering/domestic providers. They will monitor quality standards, report any deficiencies, and ensure that requested work is completed.
They will need to be able to communicate and engage with the young people on the unit. They should be approachable in their manner and be receptive to feedback, which will be acknowledged through their attendance at weekly meetings with the young people.This post is based at the Maudsley Adolescent Unit (MAU, Currently based at Bethlem Hospital Site, Beckenham, but moving into Pears Maudsley building, Denmark Hill in due course).
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dedicated and organised Ward Housekeeper to support the smooth operation of our CAMHS inpatient ward. This vital role ensures a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for young people, staff, and visitors.
Cleaning & Environment:Conduct regular quality audits, manage spillages promptly, and maintain a tidy, hazard-free ward. Coordinate deep cleans post-discharge and ensure bedrooms are prepared for new admissions. Liaise with domestic and facilities teams for ad hoc maintenance and environmental tasks.
Catering Support:Order meals, assist patients with food choices, and ensure dietary needs are met. Support meal service alongside nursing staff, maintain kitchen hygiene, and manage catering supplies and equipment.
Laundry:Complete weekly linen audits, maintain laundry areas, and assist patients in accessing clean clothing.
Health & Safety:Support the Ward Manager with audits (fire, ligature, H&S), record outcomes on AssessNet, and ensure compliance with Trust standards. Monitor alarms, keys, and swipes.
General Duties:Welcome visitors, support staff training, maintain meeting rooms, and manage ward equipment and furnishings. Ensure all electrical items are PAT tested and furniture meets Trust requirements.Please review the JD document for in-depth duties for this role.
