Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity become available in the CAMHS Enhanced Treatment Service (ETS) , we are looking for a band 6 CAMHS practitioner. We would welcome applications from Nurses or other allied health professionals .

About the team:

ETS is for young people aged 12-18 who are presenting with a serious mental illness. We offer an alternative pathway for young people who have been admitted for inpatient treatment, as well as offering a supported discharge package for young people leaving hospital.

We aim to reduce A&E presentations and hospital admissions and offer the least restrictive interventions to provide consistent access to rapid, effective interventions, support and recovery - including crisis services. This includes better use of resources and investing to develop more local, community-based services and support. The service has both an outreach, and community day service model.

This varied role offers excellent opportunities to gain experience and therapeutic skills in a variety of different settings. As a team we are passionate about learning and staff development and wellbeing.

The post will be based at the Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell and will be moving to the new PEARs Building when it opens at the Maudsley Site.

We are looking to appoint someone who is confident, responsive and has a passion for young-person and family-centred improvements; you will be enthusiastic and resilient and be able to respond to young people's needs flexibly.

Main duties of the job

  • To assume a Care-Coordinator role, involving the personal responsibility and professional accountability for a caseload as part of the Enhanced Treatment Service, Co-ordinating care, communicating with other professionals involved in the care and ensuring regular CPA reviews are held as required
  • Recognising and addressing concerns about the physical health needs of service users with long term conditions (e.g. diabetes, asthma etc.); escalating these concerns as necessary to senior members of the multi-disciplinary
  • Recognising and responding appropriately to risk incidents, urgent situations, emergencies or crisis including "self-harm and suicide prevention" with particular regard to the risks in community settings, in line with Trust policies and training
  • Understanding and implementing safeguarding procedures in a community setting; recognise, report and investigate safeguarding issues and raise safeguarding alerts if you suspect that a service user and/or carer has been exposed to harm or
  • Administering and monitoring the side effects of medication according to NMC professional
  • Demonstrate leadership skills within the clinical context of the community, showing particular awareness of the challenges facing staff working in a community setting and supporting junior staff as appropriate.
