Job Overview
The Expert by Experience Involvement Worker will support Experts by Experience (people with learning disabilities and/or autism) in fulfilling the functions of their job role including the preparation and co-delivery Estia Centre training programmes. They will also provide practical and emotional support for Experts by Experience to engage with other initiatives and projects which require their involvement.
It is an exciting time to join the Estia Centre as we grow and develop our team to ensure our learning programmes continue to make a real difference to the health and lives of people with learning disabilities, autism and additional mental health needs. We believe in working in partnership to inspire a committed, passionate and competent workforce through quality driven, evidenced-based learning and research, and are looking for a creative and passionate Expert by Experience Involvement Worker to help us achieve our vision.
This is a fixed term post for one-year with a possibility of extension. The role can be worked flexibly, but we do ask for Mondays to be prioritised as this is the standard working day of our lead Expert by Experience trainer.
Main duties of the job
The Expert by Experience Involvement Worker's role will support Experts by Experience in the planning and co-delivery of our training programmes and support them to engage with and participate in other projects, forums, meetings and initiatives which would benefit from their involvement. As such, the successful candidate must have good practical experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities and also have proficient IT skills to develop 'easy-read' (accessible) information.
The ideal candidate will be a confident communicator and networker who is able to build strong, trusting, collaborative relationships and have some experience of supporting people with learning disabilities to participate in self-advocacy groups or in training activities.

About us
Mental Health and Learning Disabilities (MHLD)
The Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Service comprises four specialist, community-based teams which cover Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, providing local outpatient and community-based assessment and interventions for people with learning disabilities over 18, who have additional mental health needs and/or significant challenging behaviour. The teams also provide inpatient liaison, advice, training and consultation to mainstream services, family carers and support staff.
National Autism Unit (NAU)
The NAU is a specialist inpatient and day-care service, and Outpatient Clinics providing assessment, diagnosis and post-diagnostic intervention. They use person centred approaches, helping patients to improve their coping skills and daily living abilities according to individual need. We are a small team providing specialist research and learning development for people who support adults with a learning disability, autism and mental health needs. Our learning programmes are developed and delivered in collaboration with clinical subject matter experts from across the South Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and in partnership with our learning disability and autism experts by experience. Together we aim to develop the confidence,
competence and skills of local, regional and national support staff and teams through open courses advertised in our prospectus and via bespoke and tailor-made learning programmes.

- Work alongside other Estia staff and Experts By Experience to plan, prepare for, participate in and present at meetings, conferences and other involvement forums.
- Support Experts by Experience with travelling to and from local, regional and national venues.
- Support the Experts by Experience to develop easy read documents as required.
