Job responsibilities

• be responsible for psychiatric assessment, treatment, planning and review of service users;
• be a member of the multi-disciplinary team and to participate in the delivery and evaluation of treatment for the service users;
• participate in MDT meetings and Care Programme Approach reviews;
• conduct in depth informed clinical interviews, to be able to do mental state assessments, and general physical examination and request relevant investigations such as ECG, Bloods and formulate appropriate treatment plans according to the findings, including referrals to general medical services;
• To ensure that routine physical health checks are performed accordingly to the Early Intervention Standards.
• provide medical and mental health assessments to service users, and identify treatment resistant patients;
• undertake Mental Health Act assessments when required and Section 12 approved
• liaise with appropriate agencies concerning the treatment and management of service users, including maintaining active correspondence with GPs;
• diagnose clients with an ICD-10 code on acceptance onto the caseload and follow up appointments;
• maintain adequate written documentation of all medical and psychiatric examinations of the patients and to record contacts with relatives and carers. The outcome of such interventions should be recorded. Clear diagnostic and treatment plans should be formulated and recorded, and a comprehensive case workup should be available. Risk assessments should be reviewed and updated as per guidelines;
• undertake and complete psychiatric reports under supervision for Mental Health Tribunals and Hospital Managers hearings and attending them as needed.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

• Full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice

Desirable

• Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
• Approved under S12 of the UK Mental Health Act (1983), or able to achieve these within 3 months of appointment (A)

Experience and clinical skills

Essential

• Commitment and experience of multi-professional team working (I)
• Confidence in managing acute risk situations including use of MHA as appropriate.
• Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work

Desirable

• Experience of service development in mental health
• Experience within early intervention team, home treatment teams or acute mental health liaison
• Experience within general community settings

• Capacity to work cooperatively in pursuit of clear goals and objectives
• Self-motivating
