South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is working with MACANI, which is a respected Abu Dhabi based organisation with a mission to develop and extend high quality mental health care across the United Arab Emirates.
Maudsley Health is now developing a specialist Maternal Mental Health service across the Middle East and we are keen to recruit additional highly trained and skilled clinical staff. If you have training and experience of working with Maternal or Perinatal Mental Health Services, use an evidence-based approach and can be adaptable and open in your approach, we would be delighted to have an initial conversation with you.
Main duties of the job
o To provide specialist psychological services in the field of clinical psychology and maternal mental health, which encompasses specialist assessment, including diagnosis and formulation of psychological difficulties, treatment planning, treatment management and monitoring of treatment response and outcomes. These specialist assessments and interventions will considero The perinatal frame of mindo The impact of maternal mental illness on the mother, the infant and the mother-infant relationshipo The needs of the wider family whilst treating the underlying mental health difficulties.o To work as an autonomous professional within the Maternal Mental Health Service provided by Maudsley Health (MH) in accordance with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health guidelines and codes of conduct and MH Maternal Mental Health Service and wider organizational policies and procedures.o To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

Clinical and Client Care To undertake specialist maternal mental health assessments for women with a range of mental health difficulties who are trying to conceive, are pregnant or in the first 2 years after having a baby.To complete specialist assessments of the needs of the entire family - this may include individual work with dads, siblings, or couples work with the parents. To develop individualized collaborative formulations and provide evidence-based interventions for patients presenting with maternal mental health difficulties utilising the perinatal frame of mind approach considering the needs of the mother, the baby and the mother-infant relationship. To develop individualized collaborative formulations and provide evidence-based interventions for a range of mental health presentations including adjustment disorders, bonding difficulties, PTSD, anxiety disorders, affective disorders and severe enduring mental illnesses. To provide culturally appropriate psychological interventions for patients/clients, their carers and/or families, when required. To communicate skilfully and sensitively with patients and their families whilst taking into consideration any communication barriers or difficulties that may be present. To deliver treatment or liaise with carers/family members through with the support of interpreters, where appropriate To assess any clinical risk that may be present and develop appropriate risk management and escalation plans. To manage any safeguarding concerns that may be present and develop appropriate management and escalation plans. To produce detailed clinical reports, where appropriate.Responsibilities for Service Clinical Functioning To support the development of culturally competent and accessible services. To liaise with referrers and other professionals concerned with patients/clients to ensure that care plans are regularly reviewed and updated. To utilize theory, evidence-based literature and research on maternal mental health to support evidence-based practice when working with clients/patients. To provide services at a time and in a manner that is acceptable to patients.Policy and Service Development To follow organizational policies and procedures relevant to current role. To propose changes to practices or procedures that may contribute to enhancing the services offered by the team and wider service. To initiate and implement service development projects, as agreed with line and service management. To participate in any ongoing implementation projects, as requested across relevant services.Care or Management of Resources To take care of, and use carefully, the services equipment and physical resources. To ensure that there are sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting supplies in a timely manner.Teaching and Training To undertake occasional teaching and training of pre- and post- qualification psychologists and provide specialized training to other professionals, as appropriate and as requested. To contribute to the development of the knowledge and skills base within the team by maintaining an active awareness of current developments in psychology and by implementing knowledge gained in practice.
