Job summary
We are a 13-bed female acute ward, providing evidence-based mental health treatment for both pregnant women and women with babies under one year old.
Our service is for women and their babies/in third trimester pregnancy who present with an acute or relapsing mental illness.
Our aim in promoting recovery is twofold: a) for women to develop confidence in their vital role as mothers and to have a lasting return to their community and b) for babies to grow up to be physically healthy, emotionally capable and securely attached so that they can lead happy lives.
We provide in house training as well as some specialist training for the role, such as baby massage, breast feeding, infant yoga, newborn baby observations
We encourage applications from nursery nurses who have leadership skills, who are innovative with a a positive " can do" attitude and who have a desire to help and show empathy to women under our care. We are looking for a candidate who can bring a diverse team together which is united in its desire to provide excellent care at all times. The ideal candidate will manage conflict fairly and compassionately and will ensure the nursery nurse team works collaboratively with other disciplines on the MBU.
Main duties of the job
As part of a rich multi-disciplinary team, your primary role will be to lead a large team of nursery nurses and to present the experience of the baby at all relevant MDT discussions. You will be responsible for driving innovation and development ideas within the team, whilst ensuring that every member of the team feels valued and vital. You will ensure that all interventions are based on NHS guidelines and you will be responsible for ensuring all staff adhere to protocols. You will be expected to provide support to pregnant.
The post holder is required to have a robust working knowledge of childcare and child development which is used to inform care plans and interventions. The candidate will have an up to date awareness of recent research and guidance regarding child development and attachment theory.
You will work alongside professionals offering therapeutic input with the mother and baby relationship as a focus of your work. You will also liaise with other professionals agencies such as local authorities, health visiting, GPs.
