Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our small but dedicated multi-disciplinary team at the FiND Service. The service provides a neuropsychiatric day programme which offers intensive physical and psychological therapy for service users with functional neurological disorder (FND). Service users attend for 2 full days per week over an initial three-week period with some going on to attend an extended programme of a further 5 weeks. During this time they receive 1:1 physiotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy as well as group sessions run by members of the team. This fixed-term post covering maternity leave would be an ideal opportunity to develop experience of working with the FND client group and would ideally suit someone looking to consolidate existing experience of working in this area.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialised individual physiotherapy assessment and treatment for service users referred into the service.
  • Contribute to team discussions during screening of referrals into the service.
  • Carry out detailed, specialist physiotherapy assessments of suitable referrals and contribute to the preparation of assessment reports alongside the CBT Therapist.
  • Devise individual physio treatment plans for service users accepted onto the program. Meet with service users for 1:1 physio sessions over the course of their time at FiND to implement and review these plans.
  • Assist in running group sessions for service users on the program.
  • Contribute to team discussions regarding suitability of service users being put forward for the extended five-week program.
  • Contribute to the writing of treatment reports for service users once they have completed the program.
  • Supervise the Rehabilitation Support Assistant to enable them to work with service users on their identified targets.

About us

The FiND Service team comprises of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, a Physiotherapist, an Assistant Psychologist, a Rehab Support Assistant and a Service Administrator, all based on site at Wakefield House, Bethlem Royal Hospital. The team also has an allocated Consultant Neuropsychiatrist who attends the weekly review meetings and is available to provide psychiatric input as required. The service has links with the Neuropsychiatry Outpatient Service at the Maudsley Hospital as well as the Lishman Unit (neuropsychiatry inpatient ward) which is currently based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital.

The unit at Wakefield House has its own physio gym, therapy room (for 1:1 sessions) and a spacious communal area for group sessions and meals. The grounds and amenities at the Bethlem site allow for many and varied opportunities for 'homework' targets for the service users and staff will often accompany them for these targets, particularly in the early stages. There are also opportunities for targets off site and staff will often accompany service users to the local shops and the local swimming pool in the course of working on targets / tackling avoidances.

Bethlem Royal Hospital

Bethlem Royal Hospital is based in a beautiful setting in over 200 acres of green space in the London Borough of Bromley, South East London. The hospital has easy access to nearby main roads and offers free parking. The site is within walking distance from Eden Park and West Wickham overland stations.
