  • Our Southwark CAMHS community based team is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced CAMHS Practitioner to take on the role of CAMHS Clinical Specialist or Clinical Psychologist. We are hoping you will be interested and excited by the prospect of working mainly with children and young people in care or who have been adopted and with their carers/parents.
  • Carelink is a specialist Tier 3 CAMHS service, closely linked to our partnership agencies, aiming to offer a holistic service to our children and young people (0-18 years), to assist with their emotional wellbeing and mental health difficulties. You will be working within a supportive CAMHS multi-disciplinary team which puts an emphasis on offering treatment and interventions. The team is multi-disciplinary made up of Child Psychotherapists and is psychotherapy led (we have a group of child psychotherapy trainees on long term placements); Psychologists; Systemic/Family Therapist; Nursing colleagues; Social Workers; Drama therapist; Occupational Therapy and a special interest in working with under 5s. We have Psychiatry input on a sessional basis.
  • There is good opportunity to learn from others as we run a specialist assessment clinic weekly - with clinicians working together as a team (we use a one way screen).

Main duties of the job

  • The post-holder will undertake comprehensive CAMHS assessments of children and young people up to age 18 and make recommendations for treatment.
  • The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy to children in care or adopted children with complex needs including experiences of trauma connected to histories of maltreatment and attachment difficulties. You will also be working the parents/carers offering them support and guidance. You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people.
  • Close working relationships with members of the team and our partnership agencies will be essential e.g. Social Services, Child Health, Education and Virtual School.
  • Applicants must be able to work independently and have good clinical/therapeutic and case management knowledge and skills.
  • Applicants will have had previous experience working in CAMHS/NHS
  • The post-holder may take on clinical supervision for other team members.

Job Purpose:

  1. This is a specialist post focussing on delivering a CAMHS service to children and young people in care and adopted children and their families. Age range 0-18 years.
  2. To provide specialist assessment and treatment to children, adolescents and their families referred to Southwark Carelink CAMHS.
  3. The post holder will use specialist clinical knowledge and knowledge of child and adolescent mental health theories to carry out evidence-based assessments and interventions.
  4. To manage your own caseload and provide specialist therapeutic interventions to include work with parent and child together, individual work, parent work and family work. Also, direct work with children (e.g. psychotherapy/art therapy/play therapy/DBT/CBT) with both short term and long term interventions.
  5. Postholder will share responsibility with senior colleagues for ensuring that staff within the team achieve positive clinical outcomes for children, young people and their families and that these are evidenced by performance indicators such as activity data, targets and quality outcome measures and implementation of NICE guidance.
  6. The post holder will manage clinical risk within their part of the team and in conjunction with other site-based senior staff participating in a duty system for risk management and emergency cases.
  7. The post holder will take an active role in the research activities of the team and audit and interpret complex data to develop own and others understanding of child and adolescent mental disorders.
  8. The post holder will work in partnership with other members of the CAMHS team, other CAMHS services, Child Health/Paediatric Services, and Childrens Social Care and other partner agencies to support integrated practice and service delivery.
  9. The post holder will participate in clinical and/or professional supervision and will supervise, advise or manage junior members and trainees of the team.
  10. The post holder will contribute to the training activities of the team both within the service and externally.
  11. The post holder will use and maintain skilled standards of personal professional clinical practice in the treatment modalities required by the children and young people treated by the team and be a resource to the whole service in maintaining the skills of others

  • First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV or Doctorate level qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology or First level qualification in OT, social work, or equivalent or First level qualification in art, play or drama therapy, family therapy or other psychotherapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems. All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) , Health Professional's Council (HPC/ HCPC), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), Social Work England, the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) or the BPS (British Psychological Society).
