Job summary
South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLAM) are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, full time, substantive Consultant Psychiatrist to join our well-established In-patient Adult (working age) Rehabilitation Unit situated in Heather close within the London Borough of Lewisham.
Higher trainees (ST6 and above) who are due to CCT within next 6 months are very welcome to apply for this post, if you meet our eligibility criteria.
Heather close Number 5 is located in a leafy residential setting in Hither Green, not far from University hospital Lewisham. It does not meet the criteria for medium security and provides care for patients with psychosis with or without mild personality disorders, substance misuse and some challenging behaviours.
Heather Close no 5 is a 24 hour, 16-bedded, mixed sex (female and male), intensively staffed care facility, having the status of an in-patient service, and able to detain individuals under the 1983 Mental Health Act. It is part of the SLP service provision.
The unit offers specialist care, recovery and psychological programed for individuals aged between 18-65 years, with psychosis, complex needs, challenging behaviour, personality disorders and substance misuse, some of whom have forensic histories.

This is a 10 PA post (7.5 PA for direct clinical care and 2.5 PA for supporting professional activities).

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will largely work in Heather close but will occasionally be expected to offer nominal cover for the Enhanced recovery team (ERT) which is the community Rehabilitation service. The ERT does have a full time Consultant and junior doctor cover, so the post holder will only need to provide nominal cover during periods of leave or in emergencies.
Apart from taking on a clinical role, the post holder will also undertake a leadership role and work closely with the Service Lead in running the service and maintaining all aspects of governance
The post holder will need to be flexible and adaptable to both working with and leading developments in the service.
