Job summary
All SLaM services are delivered through one of two types of Operations Directorates:
Borough Operations Directorates that deliver core services for the relevant Borough.
Trust-wide Operations Directorates that provide services to all relevant service users, these include CAMHS, and Older Adult services.
Alliance Operations Directorates that provide SLaM services as part of an alliance agreement. Some alliances are service specific (eg Forensics) and may be hosted by a larger Operations Directorate while others are Borough or whole population based (eg Lambeth Living Well Network Alliance) and may be delivered as an Operations Directorate in their own right.
All Operations Directorates work closely with newly formed Clinical Academic Groups that are responsible for pathway design, clinical research and other academic activity.
Operations Directorates and CAGs are both supported by a services hub that directs HR, finance, commercial, contracts, BI, ICT and academic science.
This role will lead the operation, finance, workforce and strategic elements of Lewisham Borough Services within SLaM by leading the Lewisham Operations Directorate.
Main duties of the job
o To be responsible for the transition of Lewisham SLaM services from services specific CAGs to Borough-wide mutli-specialty services and teams.o To be responsible for the delivery of SLaM's Lewisham Borough strategy through the development of robust business plans, the setting of relevant operational targets, and for the delivery of its activities within agreed budgets and to agreed standards.o To lead, with the Clinical and Academic Directors, the effective working of governance structures, roles and responsibilities based on multi-disciplinary approaches with an emphasis on collaborative leadership and team working.o To ensure there are effective relationships with commissioners, local authorities and other external stakeholders.o To ensure there are mechanisms in place to involve key stakeholders in all aspects of service planning and delivery, to develop culturally sensitive services acceptable to an ethnically diverse inner city population and to ensure fair access to services irrespective of gender, sexuality, religion, culture, race or disability.o To contribute to the effective management, development and strategic direction of the Trust and Kings Health Partners (KHP) and ensure Lewisham Borough and its interests are effectively represented.o To host Trust-wide and National Specialist services as required and indicated in the directory of Trust-wide and Specialist services.

To manage and control general day to day operations of the Operations Directorate so that regulatory, business plan and contractual obligations are fulfilled and risks are effectively managed. To ensure that effective relationships are established and maintained with commissioners of services and external agencies which provide sources of funding. To support the delivery of clinical pathways within the Operations Directorate and support the translation of research into clinical practice by the application of quality improvement systems to service delivery. To support the development and resourcing of research, service evaluations and an outcomes approach in order to integrate the R&D and service agenda to achieve effective and evidence-based service transformation. To promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement based on best practice and positive service user experience. Working with the Clinical Director, to ensure that there are explicit care pathways that support standardised, consistent and focused interventions and these are based on implementation of national guidelines, NICE requirements and CQC standards for improving health and wellbeing in mental healthcare. To ensure that all staff treat service users, carers and relatives with dignity and respect at every stage of their care/treatment. To give clear and inspirational direction and support to staff working within Lewisham, ensuring they are appropriately managed, motivated and engaged, in order to ensure the successful and co-ordinated delivery of activities and targets. To recruit, motivate, train, develop and retain appropriate staff enabling them to have the skills, expertise and discretion to function effectively in their role.
