Job summary

An exciting opportunity for an experienced registered mental health nurse to develop skills in a specialist personality disorder service has arisen on Waddon Ward, River House.

The post involves leading and supporting the nursing team, being the primary nurse for a small case load, assessment of new patients, leading on quality, taking a role in service development and providing some consultation to other wards in River House in working with clients with personality disorder. You may also be asked to deputise for your ward manager in their absence.

You will receive training and supervision required for the role.The successful candidate must be committed to providing high quality patient care and have a demonstrated interested in working with offenders with personality disorder.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing high quality nursing interventions to patients with personality disorder.
  • Supervising junior staff.
  • Supporting junior staff with report writing for CPAs, MHRTs etc
  • Participating in an ongoing programme of development and education for the nursing team.
  • Ensuring key performance indicators are met
  • Maintaining high quality standards on the ward.

About us

Waddon Ward, based at River House, Bethlem Royal Hospital, is a 15-bed male medium secure unit. It is one of only three specialist units in the country providing assessment and treatment for men with a diagnosis of personality disorder and history of offending. It is closely linked to the I-CAN Integrated Community Service Team, as well as other Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) services in prison and probation. Through a variety of psychological, psychosocial and occupational interventions, patients can successfully progress to other OPD services in prison and to successful reintegration into the community. All patients engage in the Violence Reduction Programme while other parts of their treatment is tailored to their individual need and delivered by the multi professional team on Waddon Ward.

We are a multi professional team including nurses, psychosocial support workers, OTs, psychologists and medics.

The post holder will deliver, or advise on the delivery of, high quality safe nursing care, ensuring consistently high standards of practice and clinical excellence which comply with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct.

As a Deputy Ward Manager you will promote and develop clinical leadership and clinical practice and be a positive role model to junior members of the team through the practice of evidence-based care.
