Lucas Ward is a 12 bed female acute unit covering our four boroughs. We are a dynamic team and we strive to enhance patient care and wellbeing of staff through support and team working.
The ward works in collaboration with other acute services in the Trust to provide outstanding care and treatment to some of our most vulnerable and challenging service users.Lucas Ward places patient experience at the forefront of our service and we aim to reduce the use of restrictive interventions through therapeutic engagement.
The Occupational Therapists role is to provide assessments and interventions with a focus on recovery through meaningful activity, establishing roles and routines, social inclusion, psychoeducation, relapse prevention and facilitating timely discharge. The role includes working with the wider MDT to co-ordinate and contribute to a programme of therapeutic group work that promotes wellbeing and recovery. The Occupational Therapist's expertise in environmental adaptation will be utilised in ward and home environments, to prescribe basic equipment or refer on for more specialist equipment / major adaptations. You will be providing occupational therapy leadership for students, designated junior staff and volunteers, through supervision and appraisal. You will work with the OT leadership team and wider MDT to contribute to and lead on defined projects aimed at improving the experience of inpatient service users and carers that we serve.
Main duties of the job
- You will be selecting and applying occupational therapy assessment for a key designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the client in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.
- To co-ordinate the ward's therapeutic group programme
- To provide meaningful, occupationally focussed individual and/or group interventions
- To provide an occupational perspective to risk assessments, clinical risk management and positive risk taking.
- With service user consent, to proactively include family, friends and carers in all aspect of the occupational therapy process and discharge planning.
- To be able to utilise an understanding of the principles of both safeguarding and mental capacity pertaining to our service users and respond appropriately. To be able to take a lead role in identifying and assessing any issues pertaining to safeguarding / mental capacity in relation to activities of daily living.
- To work with the OT leadership team and wider MDT to contribute to and lead on defined service improvement projects aimed at improving the experience of inpatient service users and carers that we serve.
- To provide occupational therapy leadership for students, designated junior staff and volunteers, through induction, training, supervision and appraisal activities.
- To demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development through active participation in internal and external development opportunities.
