Job summary
We are looking for a motivated and client centred Occupational Therapist to join one of our acute adult mental health teams working on a female inpatient ward at the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, London.
You will be joining an experienced and supportive team of Occupational Therapists working within the hospital and SLAM adult community services within Southwark.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be a creative and hard-working occupational therapist with solid mental health experience. They will be passionate about the value of occupation in facilitating mental health recovery, They will be able to carry out occupationally focused assessments and interventions and will be integrated into the MDT to promote a collaborative approach to the use of therapeutic activity. They will be interested in improving the experience of service users, carers and/or staff working on the ward via involvement dedicated service development projects.
The post holder will oversee and provide occupational therapy assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation to people accessing the female acute Intensive care mental health ward based in Lewisham to promote Safety, Recovery and person centred practice

- You will be selecting and applying occupational therapy assessment for a key designated caseload, addressing occupational performance and skill deficits, enabling the client in areas of self-maintenance, productivity and leisure.
- To co-ordinate the wards therapeutic group programme and regular service user evaluation.
- To provide meaningful, occupationally focussed individual and/or group interventions, particularly influenced by the principles of remotivation, recovery and social inclusion.
- To provide an occupational perspective to risk assessments, clinical risk management and positive risk taking.
- With service user consent, to proactively include family, friends and carers in all aspect of the occupational therapy process and discharge planning.
- To be able to utilise an understanding of the principles of both safeguarding and mental capacity pertaining to our service users and respond appropriately. To be able to take a lead role in identifying and assessing any issues pertaining to safeguarding / mental capacity in relation to activities of daily living.
- To work with the OT leadership team and wider MDT to contribute to and lead on defined service improvement projects aimed at improving the experience of inpatient service users and carers that we serve.
- To provide occupational therapy leadership for students, designated junior staff and volunteers, through induction, training, supervision and appraisal activities.
- To demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development through active participation in internal and external development opportunities.
