South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) is looking to recruit a fixed-term (11 months) Consultant Psychiatrist for the Florence Ward in Lambeth Hospital. This is a cover for the current post holder's parental leave. The successful applicant will not only co-lead in a range of improvement work on the ward and acute pathway but also take an integral role for the upcoming Lambeth Hospital Decant Programme alongside the inpatient consultants, ward managers and other senior colleagues in the Directorate.
Main duties of the job
The main clinical duties are to provide senior medical input as consultant psychiatrist / Approved Clinician for the patients treated in the Florence ward. There is reciprocal Approved Clinician cover including under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act for the leave, study leave and sickness of senior medical staff in Lambeth during working hours.

The Florence ward is likely to be converted from a mixed-gender ward to a female only ward in the coming months. Alongside all the other inpatient acute wards and intensive care unit in Lambeth Hospital, the Florence ward will be relocated to the New Douglas Bennett House in Maudsley Hospital later in 2024. The successful candidate is expected to take a co-leadership role for these changes with the ward manager, inpatient leadership and Directorate Leadership Team.

The post holder will take advantage of all the opportunities of innovative service development, quality improvement and management / leadership development in the LWNA as well as within the Trust.
