We are delighted to invite applications for a part time fixed-term Specialty Doctor post in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Child and Adolescent Mental Health / Neurodevelopmental Paediatrics with experience in mental health (5PAs) to join the Autism and Related Disorders Team (ARD) which sits within the Service for Complex Autism & Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorders (SCAAND), a National and Specialist outpatient Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. This is a new post established in order to meet increased demand for the service.
If you are looking for an exciting clinical role in an established National and Specialist CAMHS neurodevelopmental team, this is the ideal post for you. We welcome applications from Core Trainees with CAMHS experience, who may be looking to take a break from training in the near future, or from psychiatrists who wish to pursue a CESR in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The Trust will be willing to obtain working visas for GMC registered overseas appointees if required.
The post is based within the CAMHS Clinical Academic Directorate of South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, the most comprehensive mental health service for children and young people in the country.
The Trust is a leading mental health service provider working in partnership with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience as part of the King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.
Main duties of the job
The post holder would be expected to play a key role in the multidisciplinary assessments of children and adolescents with a focus on diagnostic clarification, formulation, and assessment for treatment of complex neurodevelopmental and co-occurring conditions, in shared-care with local services.
In addition, the post holder would hold a role in the prescribing and monitoring medication where appropriate, working therapeutically with young people and families, and supporting the delivery of services in accordance with Trust Clinical Governance and NICE guidance policies.
The work will largely consist of co-working cases with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team, however, in addition the post holder will be expected to hold a caseload of cases in a psychiatry role.
You will be supported by a range of multidisciplinary staff and will have access to regular supervision with a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
About us
The ARD team in SCAAND attends to children and young people up to the age of 18 years who present with a range of significant mental health difficulties with complex neurodevelopmental problems. The Service actively participates in ongoing research led by clinical academics at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London. Opportunities to participate in research are available and encouraged.
The post holder will work alongside Dr Nicoletta Adamo, Consultant Child Adolescent Psychiatrist (on maternity leave), Prof Tony Charman, Honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Kenneth Lee, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Dr Sarah Thompson, Principal Clinical Psychologist and Team Lead, one Senior Clinical Psychologist, one assistant Psychologist and one Core Trainee Doctor in the service. The team includes a range of experienced staff and supported by one full time administrator and one administrator-assistant psychologist.

- Clinical Duties: The post holder will be a full member of the ARD medical team at The Maudsley Hospital. The post holder will carry out specialist psychiatric assessments and physical examinations of children with complex neurodevelopmental presentations. - Clinical Governance: The Trust has established multi-disciplinary clinical governance mechanisms that the post holder will be expected to participate in including evidence-based practice implementation of local policies and procedures that support best practice - both uni-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary.
- Audit and Quality Improvement: The Trust undertakes regular quality improvement and clinical audit of their activities and the appointee will be expected to take part in this programme, and further develop specific projects and associated data collection relevant to their work and their department.
- Teaching, Supervision and support to training and non-consultant staff grade posts: There are weekly training sessions for junior and middle grade doctors open to all staff. In addition, there is a weekly supervision for trainee doctors, which is also open to this post.
