Job summary
This role presents an exciting opportunity for a Rehabilitation Support Worker to join our specialist, multi-disciplinary team offering a specially tailored programme for service users with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). The FiND Service offers a 2-day-per-week programme (2 cohorts of patients run concurrently - one on Mon & Tue, one on Thu & Fri) over a 3-8-week period for people with FND. The service offers an intensive package of cognitive behavioural psychotherapy, physiotherapy, psycho-education and rehabilitation skills training. The successful candidate would, under guidance of the therapists. play an integral role in providing a blend of psychological, physical and occupational rehabilitation to the patients at the programme, delivering evidence-based interventions for the treatment of FND as well as delivering education groups to the patient cohorts.
Along with the assistant psychologist, they would co-lead in providing individualised self-management sessions and support the Physiotherapist in providing individualised physiotherapy. The role includes working both on and off the unit, both with and without direct supervision.

Main duties of the job
- Develop therapeutic relationships with service users who have a diagnosis of FND.
- Collaborate with the Physiotherapist in providing consistent physiotherapy interventions to patients
- Deliver self-management sessions in collaboration with the assistant psychologist under supervision of the Physiotherapist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
- Deliver educational group presentations on topics relevant to FND
- Provide feedback demonstrating competent observation skills
- Organise and run group intervention sessions such as gardening group and physiotherapy workshops
- Complete community-based sessions as directed e.g. outdoor mobility rehabilitation sessions, community visits etc.
- Join team meetings and contribute ideas, observations and reflections
- Liaise with other staff and agencies involved in the care of the service user as required
- Assist with collecting outcome measures and other relevant data
- Proactively collaborate with the admin staff at the programme in order to complete departmental administration as required, such as ordering food for patients
- Comply with risk assessments when working with service users, and to be able to identify risks/risky behaviour and alert appropriate staff
- Complete necessary clinical documentation in accordance with Trust and professional guidelines
- Maintain regular cleaning of the Physiotherapy equipment in line with Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines
About us
You would be working day-to-day as part of a dedicated team of professionals based at Wakefield House within the grounds of the Bethlem Royal Hospital. The team is made up of a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, a Physiotherapist, an Assistant Psychologist, a Rehab Support Worker (this post) and a Service Administrator. There is also regular input from a dedicated Consultant Neuropsychiatrist. You would also be joining the wider Neuropsychiatry Service of the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust which offers out-patient treatment across three sites in South London, as well as an in-patient service at the Lishman Unit (also based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital).
The Bethlem Royal Hospital is based in a beautiful setting in over 200 acres of green space in the London Borough of Bromley, South East London. The hospital has easy access to nearby main roads and offers free parking. The site is within walking distance from Eden Park and West Wickham overland stations.
