Job summary
The Personalised Programmes for Children and Parents (PPCP) Team and PPC study
Child conduct problems are associated with lifelong mental health and antisocial problems. A significant group of children do not benefit from current evidence-based parenting group interventions. The PPC RCT is testing two new programmes: the Personalised Programme for Children and Parents (PPCP) and the Parent-Led Education and Support Programme, (PLESP) against a waiting list control. Both aim to assist families who have not engaged with existing programmes or who have not benefited. The PPCP team has been set up as part of the PPC study and is based at Southwark CAMHS. There will be another PPCP team at the Tavistock Clinic.
The PPCP is a manualised, individual family intervention for children with complex conduct problems, and is based on social learning theory, family domains theory, and attachment theory. It includes modules for working with parents and children, parents together and parents and school. The approach is collaborative and strength based and employs active rehearsal and coaching, alongside reflective, Socratic enquiry.
The Parent Led Support programme (PLESP) will be delivered by other practitioners in the team and will provide parents with resources, including an online parenting programme (Parenting Matters Online: PMO). The PLESP practitioner will respond directly to parents concerns and assist them to use the resources effectively, and also deliver the PMO programme.
Main duties of the job
The highly specialist PCCP therapist will deliver the newly developed Personalised Programme for Children and Parents (PPCP). Following a specialist PPCP assessment, the post holder will offer a personalised version of the programme to families allocated to this intervention within the study. The programme will include parent only and parent and child sessions, normally delivered at home. Length of the programme will vary according to the needs of the child and parents.
The approach will be collaborative and strength-based. Respect for parents is at the heart of the approach, including race, culture, ethnicity, gender orientation and sexuality.
The post holder will contribute to the further development of the PPCP Programme, in conjunction with the programme developers. They will work closely with the research team to provide required information as required by the study and assist in other ways. In addition, the postholder will supervise junior staff and contribute to the broader CAMHS service, as required.
About us
The PPCP team is exceptional because it is being created as part of the PPC study. The PPCP programme and the additional Parent Led Education and Support Programme (PLES) have been developed by the Principal Investigators on the study and other senior colleagues. These include Professor Stephen Scott, Dr Rob Senior, Professor Jonathan Hill and Dr Moira Doolan, who will provide clinical supervision and leadership. The PPCP team will include the PCCP therapists and the PLES practitioners. There will be joint supervision and training with the PCCP team based at the Tavistock. The PPCP teams will work closely with the research team. The PPCP team is located in Southwark CAMHS and will benefit from and contribute to close relationships with existing clinical multidisciplinary teams in the service
This job description will be subject to regular review and adjustment.
