Job summary

Lewisham IAPT is offering an exciting opportunity to be part of a major national initiative, which is fundamentally changing the way in which psychological treatments are provided in the NHS in England.

This is a fixed term 9 months posts within Lewisham NHS Talking Therapies/ Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Service (IAPT). We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated BACP/UKCP accredited/Or close to obtaining accreditation, high Intensity Counsellor, who is committed to making a difference within primary care and the wider community. The post-holder will work within our dynamic, friendly and experienced counselling team providing psychological assessment and evidence-based counselling/psychotherapy for adults experiencing depression and/or anxiety or other common mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

.To provide a specialist psychotherapy service to Lewisham IAPT client groups including specialist assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.

To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.

To undertake service evaluation, audit and research.

To work as an autonomous professional within BACP/UKCP/or HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

About us

Lewisham IAPT is a dynamic and innovative, Primary Care Psychological Therapies Service. It is one of four IAPT services delivered by South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust. Lewisham has high social and psychological needs with considerable cultural diversity. The service provides psychological care to an ethnically diverse group of clients, where English may not be their first language. Many clients present with multiple problems including social, housing and employment issues. We have close links with our sister IAPT services within SLaM, sharing good practice and training opportunities, and have links with the IAPT training courses at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and University College London, and with centres of clinical excellence and research innovation such as the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (CADAT). Our staff haveengaged with specialised NICE recommended training thus allowing us to announce we are able to offer all of the following IAPT modalities: Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Person-Centred experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD). Clinical Supervision is a key part of our service with a commitment toindividual supervision sessions, from highly experienced supervisors to develop clinical skills.

To disseminate research and service evaluation findings through presentations and reports.

Record-keeping and Information Governance

To ensure that all information generated by own work is recorded as required by Trust policies and local procedures.

To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing, according to professional and Trust guidelines, including electronic data entry.

Research and development

To undertake regular complex service evaluation, audits or research relevant to service needs.

Maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development

To receive regular clinical and professional supervision from a more senior psychotherapist according to (professional body) and Trust guidelines.

To ensure own Continuing Professional Development in line with BACP/UKCP/or HCPC and Trust Personal Development Plan requirements.

To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current developments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislation and policies.

To comply with the BACP/ULCP/or HCPC standards or Code of Conduct, and ensure professional development in line with these.
