Job summary

The service provides care for male service users who are over 18, with a variety of mental disorders, who pose a risk of violence to others. About three quarters of patients are managed on restriction orders, with regular updates to the MoJ required. A small proportion are under civilian sections of the MHA.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will provide consultant clinical care for 12 inpatients. The ward admits 1-2 patients per month. The post holder provides gatekeeping assessments for admission along with other senior medical staff, approximately 1-2 per month. We provide services to a diverse community of very marginalized people. The post holder is expected to have good understanding of mental health inequality and be ready to engage in systems to address this.

About us

Norbury Ward Team interfaces with: Secure and private sector NHS wards across the UK, but especially SLAM secure services at the Royal Bethlem Hospital; Ward in the Community; inpatient general acute services; psychiatric intensive care units (PICUs); general adult community mental health teams; prisons.

The team is staffed by a full multidisciplinary team, including input from a full time CT doctor (1 FTE) and 0.5 specialist registrar, together with the team leader, social worker, nursing team, psychologist, OT and a full time administrator.

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
