Job summary

An exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our corporate Nursing directorate as a Patient Safety Lead and Manager (8b). The post holder will be responsible for leading and managing our Complaints and Incidents response processes, and to support the Trust with the implementation of LFPSE and PSIRF.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and manage:

  • our incidents and complaints investigatory approaches
  • Patient Safety Incident Investigations
  • trust-wide investigators, improvement coordinators and administrative team
  • Complaints team
  • relationships with ICBs, NHSE and other organisations regarding incidents and safety
  • other aspects of care that triangulate learning with incidents (including PALS and Complaints)
  • Family Liaison Officers

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing the expert senior knowledge to support the delivery of learning and improvement following patient safety incident, complaints, claims or PALS enquiries. Where possibly triangulating learning to maximise the improvements in patient care and service delivery.
  • Lead on and manage the reporting of incidents, complaints, and other triangulated learning, both internally and externally.
  • Liaison with NHSE, ICBs and other agencies regarding learning from incidents, complaints, claims and PALS.
  • Ensure the organisation is meeting the statutory reporting requirements of local Commissioners, Department of Health and NHSE/I.
  • Ensure the Information Governance aspects of dealing with patient data and reporting are recognised and where risks are identified processes are put in place to minimise these. Lead on corporate key areas and as required.
  • Lead on work streams required to support the implementation of agreed plans.
  • Make recommendations on report findings / updates to all levels of the Trust and to external strategic partners as required
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders across internal and external organisational boundaries .
  • Participate in clinical and workforce governance activities within the Trust and where appropriate across organisational boundaries.
  • Maintain effective communication systems for staff working closely alongside the post holder and across the organisation.
  • Ensure procedures are in place to meet target dates for regular statutory and Trust reports.
  • Hold a portfolio of corporate projects as agreed with the Deputy Chief Nurse which will align to the Trust Strategy of achieving Outstanding Care.
  • Projects will be Trust wide and may require managing transformational change.
  • Act with professionalism and integrity, working within agreed professional, ethical and legal frameworks and process.
  • Be visible and accessible to all staff.
