An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as the Adult Social worker on the Eating Disorders ward at the Bethlem Royal Hospital.
Gerald Russell Eating Disorders unit is a 16-bed unit which offers a range of therapeutic interventions for patients with an eating disorder & their carers, including Cognitive Remediation Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Family Therapy.
The team, is made up of doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, psychologists, occupational therapists, psychotherapists, dietitians, social worker and administrators.
In summer 2023 the Gerald Russell Eating Disorders Unit is moving from Bethlem Royal Hospital to a new home at New Douglas Bennett House located on our Maudsley Hospital Campus in Camberwell.
Co-designed with patients, carers and clinicians, the new building will offer high-quality modern facilities in a therapeutic environment with single rooms with ensuites, access to green spaces, better sightlines within wards for staff and digital innovation to improve entry to and from bedrooms and other areas to ensure people using and working in our services have more control over their personal space.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an assertive, dynamic, approachable and driven individual to take on this role. As the adult social worker, you will be responsible for providing a focused adult mental health social work service at the South London and Maudsley Eating Disorders Inpatient unit.
You will work closely with the MDT to provide expert guidance regarding mental health act, Mental Capacity Act (DoLs) legislation, adult safeguarding and domestic abuse. You will work closely with the PMOA Safeguarding Lead to provide and coordinate the delivery of an integrated adult social work provision across this specialist service. To be an active and vital member of the multi-disciplinary team using knowledge and skills to support colleagues in the delivery of care, assessment and treatment to patients and their families. To liaise with, advise and support a range of external and partnership agencies both voluntary and statutory. To deliver these services in accordance with current legislation, local authority and Trust policies and procedures. To fulfil statutory and other requirements of a social worker as and when appropriate.

- To work in partnership with service users, families and carers to meet social care needs within a range of highly complex situations that may arise from eating disorders mental health needs.
- To work together with the directorate Safeguarding lead to provide an effective social work service for service users, their families and carers by ensuring access to appropriate resources from local authorities and a range of external agencies on a national level.

- To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary inpatient team exercising social work professional responsibility for providing highly specialist assessments and follow-up for service users referred with complex problems, which includes assessment of risk in terms of self-harm, self-neglect, vulnerability, harm to others, domestic violence and safeguarding children and adults.
