Job summary

We are delighted to advertise a 6 PA Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist post within the Lewisham CAMHS service.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic consultant to join our existing consultant group and form part of the Neurodevelopment team (NDT). You will have a passion for working with young people in a deprived area and the challenges that this might bring. You will have experience in managing young people who have Autism and / or Intellectual Disabilities with additional mental health difficulties. You will help lead this dynamic team and provide your expertise in the assessment and management of young people and families that are referred to the team. You can problem solve with staff and senior management team some of the difficulties that may present.

This post also involves developmental assessments within the Community Paediatrics' social communication disorders clinic with another member of the MDT. The post holder will also be expected to be involved with service-wide assessments with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including occasional Saturday clinics (with time off in lieu).

This post is based in the beautiful and award-winning Kaleidoscope Centre in Catford (just 7 minutes on the train from the Maudsley, Denmark Hill) and connections to DLR and Thameslink. CAMHS are co-located with Community health and some social care colleagues.

Main duties of the job

This post includes 4.5 PAs of direct clinical activity with the NDT, of which 1 day is allocated to Autism Assessments under a service level agreement with Community Paediatrics. It is expected that 0.5 PAs or less will be with intake to support assessments. This is a new model, and at time of writing, has not been started.

The post benefits from 1.5PAs of structured professional activities, during which the post holder will contribute to service development, research clinical governance and quality improvement, in addition to completing continuous professional development and pursuing other professional activities.

The NDT is a well-established service that also has another consultant psychiatrist (5 PAs) as well as consultant psychology (part-time) to support in the leadership of the team. The clinical service lead is an experienced and highly efficient clinician who manages the supervision of the multidisciplinary team members. We offer specialist interventions following assessments to these young people and includes individual work as well as group. The team have a history of innovative work, sometimes presenting her work at international conferences and publishing the treatment models. It is open to young people and children aged 0 to 18 years who are registered with Lewisham GP and have additional mental health difficulties (with an existing diagnosis of autism (ASD) and/or intellectual disabilities (ID)).
