Job summary

South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) has an exciting opportunity and is looking to recruit a Substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for Ward in Community & Lambeth / Southwark Community Forensic Service.

The post is based with Ward in the Community (WiC), a locked forensic rehabilitation ward, and input into Lambeth or Southwark Community Forensic Team(s) . The job plan includes 10 PAs including 2.5 sessions for CPD activities. There is an active teaching programme conducted for the Forensic Division at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience on Friday mornings and the successful applicant would be encouraged to participate. In addition, there are opportunities to teach psychiatrists-in-training and medical students.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will cover Ward in the Community (WiC) and have a community caseload at Lambeth or Southwark Community forensic mental health services. We provide services to a diverse community of very marginalized people. The post holder is expected to have good understanding of mental health inequality and be ready to engage in systems to address this.

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Transport

  • Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.
