Hillingdon East and West Community Mental Health Team Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry - Permanent 6 sessions per week

The CMHT team islooking for a highly motivated, energetic Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry the successful candidate will be passionate about delivering high quality community care for all patients accepted into the East CMHT under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist and ensure good interfaces with other services within CNWL and Hillingdon.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to share and provide clinical leadership for East CMHT with the other part-time consultant and ensure good interfaces with other services within CNWL and Hillingdon

About us

The Riverside Centre provides a light, airy, restful environment with its use of colour and light woods. It comprises a busy Therapies Department including a varied Occupational Therapy programme and psychological therapies. There are two acute mental health wards. The wards were named after the local rivers in each area, Crane (female) and Frays (male). The wards provide some beds for sub-specialties, for example, for patients with acute mental illness and learning disabilities, under a Consultant who also works with the Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Detailed clerking, history taking and initiation of all necessary investigations and assessments for patients.

2. Establishing, initiating and evaluating treatment plans and risk assessments in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and under the supervision of the Consultant Psychiatrist.

3. Interviewing relatives and informal carers of patients as required.

4. Undertaking the relevant referrals to other disciplines and services both within the multi-disciplinary team as well as to services and resources external to the service

5. Observation of Trust, BMHS and local policies and procedures; including those related to medicines management and physical healthcare.

6. Preparation and presentation of medico-legal reports, including those for Managers hearings and Medial Health Review Tribunals for in-patients.

7. The post holder will complete full risk assessments of all in-patients in conjunction with the MDT.

8. The post-holder will liaise with all external agencies as required.

9. The post holder is expected to be part of the 2nd on-call rota (1 in 10) with attendance to the wards at weekends.

10. The post-holder is expected to carry out assessments at Prisons and HIRC

Education and Qualifications Training

Essential

  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Full GMC Registration with GMC Licence to Practise

Desirable

  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • An additional post graduate qualification of relevance to (own specialty)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in the field of general adult psychiatry
  • Four years of full-time postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty

Desirable

  • Experience of service development/business planning
  • High level knowledge of planned developments at a national level to improve efficiency and deliver quality services

Skills Knowledge & Qualities

  • Excellent communication and empathic skills
  • Timely and effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, carers, colleagues and multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrable leadership skills
