Job summary

The Band 5 TB nurses work closely with the people who use our service, their families, friends and carers and play an important contribution in how people experience our services. The Band 5 nurses are expected to be kind and responsive but professional and informative and contribute to the quality of the services we provide by:

  • Keeping the people who using our services as safe as possible through the use of sound clinical skills and effective risk assessments
  • Ensuring the best possible clinical outcomes by using up-to-date skills and adhering to evidence based policies and procedure
  • Ensuring the people using our services have a good experience by respecting, empowering and working in partnership with people throughout the care planning process

We believe that the best health care is delivered by multi-disciplinary teams working well together and in partnership with other teams and services to provide seamless care. Band 5 nurses work as part of a team and you will contribute to the success of the team by drawing support from more experienced nurses and other health professionals but also by supervising other staff and students' nurses to ensure they are working to the standards which the people using our services deserve.

Main duties of the job

Description of the Service

The post holder will work as a community staff nurse within the TB Team delivering care to people in their own homes and/hospital clinics. S/he will be responsible for the patients allocated by the TB Lead Nurse. Partnership working with The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and other agencies e.g: Health Protection Agency and Public Health England. The post holder will be responsible for a defined caseload. Part of the role is deputizing for the Lead TB Nurse.

The Band 5 TB Nurse will support TB patients to fully complete TB treatment, thus preventing the spread of infection to others and minimising the development of drug resistant disease. They will also expect to support with TB screening at different local sites.

They will ensure persons at risk of developing tuberculosis are identified, informed and referred for appropriate screening.

The Band 5 TB Nurse will increase awareness of tuberculosis prevention and treatment to health care workers, local authority workers, employers and the general public support, enable patients to have the choice to be nursed at home.

The TB Nurse will also work in partnership with the local hospital Consultant Lead Clinic to deliver clinic sessions to TB and related conditions.

The TB Nurse will also be mentoring nursing students from our local University Providers to ensure the deliver on their relevant Community placements.
