Job summary

As Divisional Medical Director, you will share accountability for all aspects of the Jameson Division alongside the Managing Director and Director of Nursing. You will provide strong, compassionate clinical leadership, helping to shape the strategy, culture, and future direction of mental health services in North West London.

You will be central to our transformation journey -- ensuring clinical quality, developing the next generation of clinical leaders, and embedding research and innovation across services. You will represent CNWL in key system forums, influence regional strategy, and champion the delivery of high-quality, inclusive care.

Main duties of the job

  • The Jameson Medical Director will be jointly responsible and accountable for all aspects of the Jameson Division alongside the Jameson Managing Director and Director of Nursing.
  • The Jameson Medical Director will provide clinical leadership and strategic direction for the Division and will ensure, alongside the Jameson Managing Director and Director of Nursing, that services are delivered with high quality, financial and operational sustainability and consistent with the Trust values.
  • The Jameson Medical Director has a key role in providing a clinical vision to inform service transformation within Mental Health services, in keeping with the 10-year plan. As such you will work also provide strong clinical leadership to the Divisional Business and Transformation team to shape and improve mental health care.
  • Jameson has responsibility for most Trust mental health services provided within the Northwest London Integrated Care System (ICS). As such the Jameson Medical Director has a significant role in representing CNWL in relevant strategic forums within the ICS and working closely with our partners in West London Mental Health Trust.

Work with the Jameson Managing Director and Director of Nursing Directors to develop clinical services and make progress towards realising the Trusts long-term strategy in line with objectives of quality, financial sustainability and operational stability.

Ensure that all local and national targets are delivered within safe and high-quality settings.

Actively contribute to all major activities of the Trust Executive and exercise corporate decision making and responsibilities.

Ensure that staff within Jameson deliver high quality services that embody the Trust values.

Management of Services

Provide visible leadership and effective management of all medical and clinical staff within the division.

Ensure quality performance standards are set which includes the delivery of efficiency targets and patient flow against agreed metrics to ensure delivery of high quality and cost-effective clinical services.

Active contribution to the Divisional Management Board, Trust Executive, and Trust Board as required and ensure external bodies receive performance reports and monitoring information as required.

Monitor quality and performance regularly and take remedial action, as necessary, to ensure that plans are achieved and services delivered are safe, of a high quality and financially sustainable.

Strategic and Service Planning

Contribute to the setting and delivery of the Divisions strategic and annual plans and contribute to the development of the Trusts strategic and annual plan.

Take a key role, working closely with the Divisional Strategy and Transformation lead in preparing and delivering relevant aspects of the Trusts delivery against the Long-Term Plan creating a shared vision with local communities, staff, patients and carers.

Ensure identification and agreement of the Divisions annual objectives and these support the achievement of the Divisions plans.

Develop an agreed strategy for improvement of Divisional services which incorporates Trust initiatives including quality improvement, all aspects of clinical governance and the focus on the patient.

Clinical and Corporate Governance

Ensure clinical governance is integrated with operational performance including through leadership in the Divisional Management Board.

Ensure the Division is compliant with national and local requirements including those set by CQC, Monitor and commissioners.

Ensure clinical quality improvement is embedded in all clinical practice.

Ensure clinical standards meet best practice.

Ensure recommendations of national initiatives are met and implemented.

Ensure Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions are complied with and the highest standards in corporate governance and probity are maintained.

Performance Management

Ensure a culture of performance management and appraisal is evident as both a responsibility and a right for management and medical/clinical staff within the areas managed.

Ensure robust internal quality and performance management systems are in place enabling the Trust to adhere to plans, standards and targets.

Ensure appropriate management capacity is in place at all levels which operates within an organisational structure and delivers responsive, safe, quality, financially sustainable, operational stable and reliable patient services.

Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with stakeholders including patients, carers and organisations to optimise the performance and development of the Trusts services.

Human Resource Management

The highest quality of medical/clinical staff management is provided in all areas of responsibility through working with the Human Resources department.

Framework of the Trusts Employment Policies and Procedures and issues arising from the Annual Staff Survey are proactively and effectively addressed.

Medical/clinical Staff are developed as a key organisational and management responsibility with the strategic requirements of current national initiatives pursued.
