MSK Outpatient Physiotherapist

Job summary

  • To provide a highly skilled physiotherapy assessment, education, advice and treatment service to outpatients referred by G.Ps. Patient conditions will include musculoskeletal conditions (including post operative orthopaedics), arthritis, and patients presenting with acute, chronic and or complex spinal pain.
  • To work in an Outpatient MSK Physiotherapy clinic setting within the trust, these are based in small clinics at GP surgeries/health centres
  • To be a source of expertise on the management and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
  • To supervise less experienced physiotherapists and students on clinical placement.

Main duties of the job

  • To perform highly specialist physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations who may have complex physical and psychological conditions.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for patients with musculoskeletal conditions, working without clinical supervision. To participate in regular formal training, clinical reasoning sessions and peer review. Access for advice and support is available from a clinical specialist physiotherapists if required.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To supervise, mentor, educate and assess undergraduate physiotherapy students and to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standard set by universities.
  • To provide clinical and non- clinical support to more junior / less experienced staff.
  • To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects in conjunction with peers to develop and enhance personal and team's clinical practice within the service.
  • To make recommendations to and assist the service lead with changes in practice by the team or to service protocols.

About us

Our well-established and proactive Physiotherapy service consists of small teams of therapists in dedicated Outpatient MSK Physiotherapy clinics based at GP surgeries/ health centres across the diverse and popular borough of Hillingdon.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and innovative physiotherapist with excellent Musculoskeletal skills and experience. This post will initially be based at The Warren Health Centre but as with all posts, location is subject to change according to service need.

This post is part-time and hours worked will need to fit in with the staff rota which currently includes working from 8am-4.30pm on a Friday and may include working until 8pm on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening. It should be noted that hours are subject to change and all applicants must have the ability and aptitude to be flexible with their hours .

We have a robust in-service training programme where peer review and reflective practice are actively encouraged. Professional development is maintained through protected time for band 7 self-study and peer support with a senior team that have a diverse range of clinical backgrounds . We have an established appraisal and development system with a positive approach to the implementation of the NHS KSF

  5. To formulate soundly reasoned clinical diagnoses and prognoses and make recommendations for the best course of intervention, developing short and long term negotiated patient goals leading to comprehensive patient discharge plans.
  6. Working in the community setting may include lone working with telephone support line from a line manger to answer non-clinical and clinical queries as required.
  7. To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment and appliances to be used by the patients.
  8. To monitor and prioritise patients on the waiting list.
  9. To act as location lead for the physiotherapy clinic if requested to do so.
