Highly Specialist Paediatric OT: mainstream/ universal service

We're seeking a proactive and innovative Band 7 OT to join our service, to develop our new universal offer within Mainstream schools. You will also manage your own clinical caseload consisting of mainstream schools and children with developmental co-ordination disorder.

This position also offers leadership opportunities, including influencing service development and mentoring fellow staff and OT students. You'll be supported every step of the way by a dedicated leadership team committed to your success and growth.

Main duties of the job

This role is an exciting opportunity to design, develop and implement an universal service for school age children in Harrow. Alongside the universal offer role the post holder will support in the co-ordinating and leading of a highly specialist Occupational Therapy service to children and young people attending mainstream schools and support staff within the Developmental Co-ordination Disorder clinic (DCD).

You will work alongside the other Band 7 pathway leads to ensure that a high quality, evidence based Occupational Therapy service is being delivered for our children, young people and families. The post holder will support the development of the service for children with functional difficulties providing opportunities for service development projects and training within the team.

Working with the other members of the team the post holder will support and develop staff training and service development in this area. We have an established and dynamic internal training programme which is supported and developed as a whole team.

They will be expected to manage their own caseload, to ensure highly specialist therapy programmes are in place for the children under their care. The post holder will be expected to work collaboratively with children/young people (CYP), parents/carers and with colleagues in Health, Education and Social Services, in service planning, policy and delivery of services to this specific client group.

  1. To co-ordinate the day-to-day provision of Occupational Therapy input for CYP with special needs, prioritising workloads and resources to ensure CYPs needs are met.

To develop and implement a universal service for children within mainstream setting.

To identify packages of care for universal offers.

To lead on the training and implementing of the universal offer within educational settings.

  1. To manage a highly specialist and complex caseload of CYP with SEN including those attending specially resourced provisions. This includes:

Gaining appropriate consent

Planning, delivering and evaluating highly specialist treatment programmes in the area of mainstream school.

  • Referring on to other services/professionals as appropriate in particular, Harrow Wheelchair services, Community equipment store, Consultant Paediatricians,
  • Using specialist knowledge and demonstrating advanced skills in dealing with complex issues, including those where there are conflicting clinical indicators, to generate appropriate strategies for caseload management and wider issues relating to service provision for school children
  • Negotiating with CYP parents/carers, and others around individual case management
  • Writing reports reflecting highly specialist knowledge and providing specific advice for statutory assessment of special educational needs
  • Analyse clinical and social information from a range of sources and integrate into assessment and development of care/treatment plan
  1. To provide highly specialist advice and programmes to OTs, other professionals and

parents regarding the management and care of school aged children.
