Health Care Support Worker/Customer Care Officer

Job summary

The post holder will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team, working under the supervision of registered nurses and clinical leads. They will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality frontline patient care, supporting clinical activities, and ensuring a smooth patient journey through the clinic.

The post holder will focus on direct clinical support whilst also undertaking administrative duties. The role will involve managing asymptomatic patients, undertaking clinical testing (e.g., venepuncture, urinalysis, pregnancy tests), STI screening and supporting treatment processes, and maintaining clinical spaces, equipment, and supplies.

The post holder will also chaperone during clinical procedures, uphold infection control practices, promote health education, and contribute to patient safety and safeguarding efforts. They will be proactive in escalating patient needs and will work collaboratively with clinical and non-clinical teams to ensure high standards of care are maintained.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties: Professional/Clinical

Call patients into clinical rooms and explain testing and examination procedures. Collect samples for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea testing and perform urinalysis and pregnancy testing with associated reading, recording, and reporting of results. Perform venepuncture for sexually transmitted infections and routine blood tests. Manage asymptomatic male and female patients through the clinic, providing sexual health screening, including blood tests for HIV and Syphilis. Process routine samples by labelling, recording, and storing appropriately. Be able to check patients' pulse, blood pressure, and temperature. Check information from others and confirm accuracy (e.g., patient's identity details). Complete paper and electronic records correctly. Assist in maintaining a safe work environment, reporting any issues that present a risk. Prepare examination rooms daily by replenishing supplies and cleaning equipment. Set and clear trolleys for examinations and procedures. Act as the patient's chaperone, when required, for doctors and nurses during examinations and procedures, ensuring privacy and dignity. Observe patients' right to confidentiality, specifically in relation to contraception and sexual health.

Administrative Duties (Secondary Focus)

While the post holder's primary focus will be clinical, they will also support key administrative tasks that enable efficient service delivery and seamless patient care.
