Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Special School Nurse (Band 6) to provide specialist health care support for children and young people with medical needs for the Harrow Special schools.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic staff who are able to work to work autonomously . Are you looking for a new challenge? Do you have the enthusiasm to join the well established team and support transformation?

Currently the Special School Nursing Team are based in the schools, working Monday to Friday 8.00-16.00, Term Time Contract.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing an excellent, high quality service to the children of Harrow who have additional needs and support the special schools in Harrow. Your work will entail working closely with children, their parent/carers and key partners to improve health outcomes and support children with special needs to achieve their full potential within all settings; at home, community and at school.

Good communication and working relationships with the school staff and school leadership team is an essential part of the role.

We welcome applications from children's or learning disability nurses with experience or interest in working with children with additional needs.

Essential

  • oNMC Registered nurse - RNChild / LD Nurse / Community Children's Nurse
  • oNumeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
  • oEvidence of relevant Continuous Professional Development

Desirable

  • oMentorship qualification
  • oEpilepsy PET 1 & 2 course
  • oIndependent & Supplementary Prescribing Course

Previous Experience

Essential

  • oPrevious experience as a Band 6 in children's services or a Band 5 nurse with significant experience in clinical setting catering for children.
  • oRecent experience with children's nursing within acute/community or school setting/ children nursing.

Desirable

  • oPrevious experience working in Special school
  • oCommunity experience

  • oAble to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, present cases, take note of actions, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone and writing letters and reports.
  • oAble to demonstrate partnership working with agencies
  • oMaintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
  • oAble to talk to people about sensitive issues in a supportive manner but also challenge others assertively where necessary
