Job summary

This post is a Community Psychiatry of Learning Disability post, supported by a multidisciplinary team including a 1 WTE substantive Specialty doctor shared with KCW consultants.

The post would be ideal for a newly appointed or experienced Consultant who wishes to work with peer support locally from two other very experienced Consultant Psychiatrists as well as a well-established multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

o To provide a Consultant Psychiatric service into the Tri-Borough Learning Disability service for people living / registered with a GP in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.o To ensure, support and develop the provision of ongoing psychiatric input to people with Learning Disabilities living in the community.o To attend community team referrals meetings, complex cases reviews, MDT meetings, and contribute to community team clinical governance and management meetings.o The H&F community Psychiatry service operates a clinic in the central base in White City and also sees people in the most appropriate setting where possible e.g. within residential provisions or day care / education settings. This also includes domiciliary visits. The Consultant is expected to be patient-centered and work flexibly with the multidisciplinary team, families, carers and other professionals.o To be available within normal working hours, to take responsibility for urgent assessments including formal mental health act assessments where possible, and participate in the out of hours Learning Disability on call rota organized by CNWL.

The Tri Borough Community Learning Disability Service is a large community service covering the boroughs of H&F Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC). The LD community health element of the team is provided by Central London Community Health NHS Trust (CLCH). Team health professionals include Community LD Nursing, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language therapy, Physiotherapy. Staff work across the 3 boroughs apart from Psychology and Psychiatry who retain a uni-borough focus. Staff are managed within their professional groups and there is a Tri Borough service manager. Whilst the Consultant Psychiatrists are employed by CNWL, they work in an integrated way with the Tri Borough community Learning Disability service and are seen as an important member of the team.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To manage, appraise and provide professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trusts personnel, policies and procedures. CLCH policies as relevant also to be followed.

2. To ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder, operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.

3. To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients.

4. To record clinical activity accurately, comprehensively and in a timely manner, and submit this promptly through the trusts and/oe CLCH clinical information systems.

5. To participate in service and business planning activity as appropriate.

6. To participate in annual appraisal for consultants.

7. To keep up to date with mandatory training

8. To attend and participate in the LD academic programme, including lectures and seminars as part of the CPD program.

9. To maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2) approval, AC approval and to abide by professional codes of conduct.

10. To work with local managers and professional colleagues in ensuring the efficient running of services, and share with consultant colleagues in the medical contribution to management. This includes annual appraisal of up to 5 colleagues (consultants and/or specialty doctors) and attendance in relevant Care Quality meetings.

11. To comply with the Trusts agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and to take an active role in the financial management of the service and support the clinical and medical directors as well as other managers in preparing plans for services.
