Job summary

The Psycho-oncology team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a highly motivated candidate to the position of Assistant Psychologist. This role is integral to the running of the service and includes administrative and clinical components, with clinical components comprising regular communication with patients, brief supportive work with patients, liaison with broader oncology MDT and access to both individual and group supervision.

We are looking for somebody with good communication skills who can be actively responsive to the needs of the team. They will be detail oriented with strong IT skills. This post is ideal for graduate psychologists eligible for British Psychological Society (BPS) Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) who are looking to develop their knowledge and experience to support applications to further training in Psychology or other areas of in the mental health care field. Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job:

To support and enhance the provision of psychological care for patients referred to the Psycho-oncology service through management of referrals following service procedures and protocols. This includes contacting all patients to book appointments and liaison with patients seeking psychological support.

To attend weekly team meetings / complex case discussion and record team discussion

To manage the administrative aspects of the service through maintenance of the referrals database and entry of appointments on the hospital electronic patient record system (Cerner).

To support psychological practitioners in the delivery of brief assessment and intervention for a small number of patients as discussed with the team and through supervision as experience permits

To support practitioner psychologists with clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work, as agreed in supervision

To work following guidelines and policies / procedures of the service, while closely supervised and regularly seeking help from supervisors / managers.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

The post holder will be based across St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals, with some opportunity for remote working. The post holder will report to the Psycho-oncology lead in addition to the Head of Clinical Health Psychology.

About us

As an Assistant Psychologist working within the Imperial Psycho-oncology team the post holder will be a member of the wider Clinical Health Psychology Department, in which regular professional meetings are held and CPD provided. The post holder will also receive supervision from a qualified Clinical Psychologist. All psychologists in the Clinical Health Psychology department are employed by Central North West London NHS Foundation Trust and have Approved Associate status with ICHT.
