Job summary
This is an opportunity to work in the Intensive Care Service of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT), providing psychological care to the patients and their families, as well helping the staff manage the emotional challenges of the work. The service covers about 100 beds in 3 of the ICHT hospitals, that is St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith. This 8b post will be based at St Mary's Hospital, adjacent to Paddington station, but will certainly liaise with the teams at the other sites and, depending on service needs, may be asked to work at the other sites. The post will be part of a team of four qualified psychologists and an Assistant Psychologist, with the expectation that trainees will be welcomed for placements in any of the sites. The ICU psychology team is part of the wider supportive Clinical Health Psychology department which has its base at St Mary's Hospital, and offers supervision, peer support and access to CPD.
Main duties of the job
- To develop, co-ordinate and ensure the systematic provision of a psychology service to the ICU service and personally provide highly specialist clinical input.
- To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
- To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate, functioning as a lead specialist in ICU
- To ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of other psychologists within the ICU service
- To undertake service evaluation, audit, research and policy development.
- To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.
- To agree outcomes/results with clinical/professional lead and to decide how they are best achieved.
