Job summary

An opportunity has risen for a Senior Practitioner to work within Milton Keynes Early Intervention Team (EIPT). The post holder will participate and lead positively on promoting and developing a consistent, safe and high-quality service. And will actively input in the continuing development and delivery of this innovative and creative service. Excellent communication and motivation skills are essential, as is the ability to promote strong leadership. EIPT has a strong track record of providing both external and internal training for our staff in line with the service development and need.

Use of own vehicle and valid UK driving license is essential for this post

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure the systematic provision of high-quality, safe, specialist, NICE concordant EIP to service users of the Early Intervention in Psychosis team in the MK catchment area.

  • To provide senior practitioner level leadership in line with CNWL, Government targets and EIPT relevant NICE guidance.

  • To be the lead in researching, developing and forming EIPT in Milton Keynes. This will require forming close working relationships/partnership with GPs, other community mental health teams, MK ARC, BLMK, CAMHS, statutory, voluntary and inpatient services.

  • The individual will actively participate in developing policies, procedures, recruitment to the team and work alongside a range of colleagues to implement Trust and national service models for the provision of mental health care in Early Interventions in Psychosis.

Job responsibilities

The Early Intervention in Psychosis Team in Milton Keynes works within the Community Mental Health services in Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL). It is a service that provides early detection, assessment and intervention for 14-65-year olds who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. The service aims to provide, evidence-based treatments in order to reduce the impact of Psychosis for the individual and their families.

The EIPT is commissioned to provide and facilitate access to comprehensive, evidence-based interventions under the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and non-CPA to clients aged between 14-65 who are experiencing or recovering from a first episode of psychosis.

N/A Care Programme Approach (CPA) is going to be soon replaced by DIALOG+ (flexible/personalised/safety planning care/collaborative working what matters to the patient), latest April 2024. Training is provided to facilitate a smooth transition.

The service endeavours to engage with individuals for up to three years and will prioritise strategies to provide an environment that promotes user involvement and recovery. The EIPT has close links to organisations including Primary Care, Community Mental Health Services, Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and Inpatient wards, Schools.

  • oExperience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems.
  • oExperience of managing others, including supervision.
  • oExperience of multidisciplinary working and liaising with referrers from a variety of professions including primary and secondary care.
