Job summary

This is an exciting new opportunity to work at the forefront of innovation in Children's and Young Peoples Mental Health operating across education and mental health care in Milton Keynes. You will play an integral part, enhancing the current clinical and management team for the Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) Service, in improving access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support in schools for children and young people in Milton Keynes as the number of teams and staff in Milton Keynes increase in September 2024 with the introduction of two further teams in Wave 11.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about young people's mental health and have had experience of working with families and young people and be confident in inter agency working.

Applicants must be a qualified and registered Professional. Experience of working with Children and Young People in Mental Health Services and of delivering evidenced-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues is desirable.

Main duties of the job

Your overall responsibility will be to provide operational management of the MHSTs, to ensure that children and young people are provided with timely, accountable, and effective services.

The Team Manager will play a key role in

  • The effective operational management of the MHST service, providing sound effective day to day leadership
  • Providing direction and coordination, in coordination with others to shape and implement future provision and ensure the quality of the service.
  • The co-ordination of the approach to clinical governance and assurance networks with teams
  • Actively leading the change management agenda for the MHST service
  • Ensuring the service operates within the agreed financial resource and targets

The postholder will be pivotal to the ongoing success and development of the service, working collaboratively with the clinical lead and the current part time manager to oversee and ensure the quality of the interventions provided by the MHST.

From September 2024 there will be five teams with an establishment of 42 staff. MK MHST works with Young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations attending school

  • Educated to degree/ diploma level with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
  • A core profession (e.g., BACP, BPS , HCPC , NMC , RMN, Social Worker, OT) including registration with a professional body

Desirable

  • Clinical post graduate qualification in evidence-based practice or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this level

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of managing a clinical multi-disciplinary mental health team and providing clinical supervision and case management
  • Experience of engaging and maintaining effective partnerships with a range of stakeholders throughout service planning and delivery. (young people, families, mental health providers, schools, Local Authority staff etc.)
  • Experience of managing a diverse practitioner team (multi-sites).

Desirable

  • Experience with children and young people aged 5-18 with mental health difficulties
