Clinical Education & Development Lead Podiatrist
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a clinical educator role that focuses our service on the professional growth of all our staff - and to inspire students on placement and lead on and support Apprentices within the department. This role is ideal for anindividual keen in the growth and development of the podiatrists of today and the future.
50% of your time will be working in High-Risk foot/ulcer clinics doing the advanced clinical work of a Band 7 podiatrist - and the other 50% will be devoted to the Education Lead/Mentor role.
You should be highly organised, working on your own initiative. You should be aware of professional and national guidelines, be up to date with current best practice and be able to demonstrate your interest in continued professional development and clinical audit.
You should be able to work on your own and as part of a team demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A degree or diploma in podiatry with current HCPC registration and a local analgesia certificate is a mandatory requirement. The post is subject to DBS disclosure. A car driver/owner is essential for domiciliary visits.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead on, and deliver a range of educational programmes across the service to include (but not excluded to):
- University Student Placement and Work Experience Lead
- Podiatry Apprenticeship Post Lead
- New Stater Induction/Training/Development Lead
- Preceptor Link/Lead
- Education & Development of Qualified Staff to include promotion of all CPD opportunities
- Managing Service Study Leave Guidelines and SOP and process
- L&D Team Link person/lead
The person will also provide specialist footcare for patient with complex high risk foot problems. This includes diabetes patients with acute and chronic foot wounds, patients with neuropathic and vascular complications, patient with foot complications who are immunosuppressed and patients who have poor tissue viability.
The post holder will be clinically responsible for treatment of the high risk caseload working autonomously as well as work as part of the multidisciplinary team; including in reach into secondary care.
The post holder will also be line manager to a small of team of podiatrists; delivering supervision for them regularly. There are some operational management duties as part of this role.

- To assess, manage and treat high risk complex caseload consisting of patients with: acute and chronic diabetic foot problems, pre and post operative amputations wounds and acute and chronic neuropathic, vascular foot/lower limb problems
- To lead in the planning of care packages jointly between hospital and community care providers and lead the High-Risk foot team in the MDT, Outpatient and inpatient setting.

- To use clinical reasoning skill in the assessment, diagnoses and formulating treatment plans of patients with a variety of high risk foot problems and medical conditions

- To have highly developed physical skills, precision hand/eye co-ordination which involves highly skilled debridement techniques of acute/chronic, neuropathic and ischaemic wounds, often for prolonged periods.
