Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 3 Healthcare Support to join our Community Mental Health Hub in Uxbridge. We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Band 3 Support Worker with an interest in general physical health. You will be expected to carry out physical health assessments on mental health patients in the community and this will be under the direction of a registered nurse. You will be seeing patients in the clozapine and depot and wellbeing clinic physical health and wellbeing clinic with occasional home visits in patients' homes.

Main duties of the job

  • Be accountable for your practice to a registered nurse
  • Participate in regular supervision with that registered nurse
  • Participate in team meetings and help develop the team
  • Contributing to creating and maintaining a high performing team by:
  • communicating well with all members of the team
  • understanding how your role helps the team achieve its objective
  • understanding the roles of different team members and how they help the team achieve its' objectives
  • using supervision and team meetings to reflect on your own practice regularly
  • Develop skills in relation to coaching/teaching individuals/carers/other staff
  • Engage in reflective practice including management of self and reflection on own reactions, asking questions and reflecting on answers given
  • Supporting with running the clozapine clinic
  • Taking vitals
  • Phlebotomy
  • Documenting in progress notes and physical health tool
  • Health education
  • Communicating clearly with patients

About us

You will be working for Hillingdon Community Mental Mental Health Services and you will primarily be working in our clinics. We run a Clozapine clinic and a Depot & Wellbeing clinic, whereby we administer medication alongside thorough physical health checks. We take blood samples, check for side effects and any physical health problems. We teach and educate our patients on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle whilst on their treatment.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Numeracy and Literacy skills required to keep accurate records and administer medicines (if appropriate)
  • Spoken and written English, to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements

Desirable

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification -eg. advanced apprenticeship, A-levels, T-levels, NVQ
  • Care Certificate - you will be supported to complete this within 3 months of starting if not achieved elsewhere

Experience in MDT setting

Essential

  • Previous experience of working with a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with the general public communicating with a range of different people
  • Previous experience of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Previous experience of working within a customer focused environment

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a mental health team or healthcare setting with caring skills
