LAS Junior Doctor in Psychiatry Adult Inpatient Unit Full time: 40 Hours per week

The successful candidate will have MBBS or equivalent (essential) and should be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Main duties of the job
- To perform clinical assessment of individuals with mental health problems, including history taking, mental state examination, physical examination
- To develop evaluation and formulation skills
- To understand pharmacological management of common mental health problems
- To develop interview and risk assessment skills
- To develop a working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and its application
- To be able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary tea
- One-to-one supervision with a Consultant for personalized professional growth
- Opportunity to teach medical students and fellow junior colleagues and trainees
- Attend the weekly academic teaching programme
About us
This role is based within Willow Ward; the female ward. A significant proportion of admissions are for patients who have a personality disorder. The team, led by the Consultant, offers a comprehensive assessment and treatment package of person-centered care to all patients. Ward rounds take place three times per week to allow for care plans to be monitored and close collaboration with patients, families and carers focusing on recovery.
The team work towards facilitating timely discharge from hospital by working closely with colleagues in the crisis and community services. The Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment team (CRHTT) are also based at the Campbell Centre and provide gate-keeping for the ward as well as supporting discharge by liaising with community teams to ensure ongoing interventions can be maintained.

- attend daily Safety Huddles and weekly Bed Management meetings to ensure the flow of patients is good and the provision of care is safe and effective
- work in collaboration with patients, families and carers focusing on the patients recovery
- facilitate timely discharge from hospital by working closely with colleagues in the Crisis Resolution Team and community services
- carry out physical investigations, manage minor ailments and arrange appropriate referrals as required
- carry out full psychiatric assessments, risk management, and formulate plans for treatment in collaboration with the MDT
- communicate appropriately with patients, relatives, GPs and other agencies
- be responsible for the prescription of appropriate pharmacological treatments
- be encouraged to participate in the management aspects of the ward
