We have a Health and Justice Services Directorate, within which sits the 'Children and Young People' Service line working in partnership with 'Youth Custody Service' colleagues to provide trauma-informed primary care, mental health, neuro-developmental and substance misuse services to the young people and young adults within our care.

We are looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic OT band 5/6 to join our Integrated Healthcare Service at HMP & YOI Feltham. Feltham is effectively two separate establishments delivering healthcare services to young people in Feltham A (15-19 years) and young adults in Feltham B (18-30 years).These two cohorts have slightly different needs and we are looking for staff that understand this and work in line with 'Child First' principles.By joining our team, you will not only look after the healthcare needs of the young people we care for, but also have the opportunity to have a real impact on promoting health and well-being for this population.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy professional who has a desire to progress into a band 6 role. The Wellbeing Team in HMP & YOI Feltham will be committed to providing mental healthcare services in custody, equivalent to those in the community. Post-holders will develop a broad experience of working with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and will gain a good understanding of what is required to deliver an effective mental health service for young people in a custodial setting.

The post holder will undertake training and supervision to fully embrace the new SECURE STAIRS model, through time participating in and co-delivering training, attending team Reflective Practice as a key part of the role, facilitating a therapeutic culture and activities on the units including Community Meetings, contributing to Formulations and, where appropriate, providing supervision to prison staff.

The post holder will work closely with the HWBT Lead to deliver and implement an effective Mental healthcare which meets the needs of the young people/young adults and adults in our care in HMP & YOI Feltham

Job responsibilities

The post holder will support the delivery of a high-quality specialist Occupational Therapy service within Feltham as part of a multi-disciplinary HWB team. This will involve providing a range of Specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions. The post will undertake the delivery of packages of care to young people and adults with varying needs and complexities.

The post holder will be supported to enable working autonomously, within their own competencies and in collaboration with Professionals within the service, families and young people and partner agencies

The post holder will be supported to fully embrace the new SECURE STAIRS model, including through development participating in and co-delivering training, attending team Reflective Practice as a key part of the role, facilitating a therapeutic culture and activities on the units including Community Meetings, contributing to Formulations. The post-holder, alongside colleagues in the Health and Wellbeing Team, will be responsible for helping the prison understand and move towards the SECURE STAIRS model of work and should therefore embody the core principles of reflectiveness, and developmentally and trauma-informed practice, in their daily activities.

Overview of main responsibilities
