Community Perinatal Mental Health Nurse, full-time for 1 year Fixed term position (37.5 hours)
We are increasing access to services for women in the perinatal period in Hillingdon hence the opportunity has arisen for suitable qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN's), to apply for a permanent full time position Band 7 Community Perinatal Mental Health Nurse post within the CNWL Perinatal Mental Health Service. The successful applicants will work in the Hillingdon Community Perinatal Team. CNWL Perinatal Mental Health service comprises of Coombe Wood mother and Baby inpatient services and community Perinatal services in the London Boroughs of Brent and Harrow, Hillingdon, Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea.

Main duties of the job
The Team provides a Monday-Friday, 9.00am-5.00pm service. The successful applicant would be expected to have the flexibility to work occasional extended opening hours to facilitate early or late clinic appointments, home visits or training.
The team works closely with Maternity Services on each site as well with local community and inpatient mental health services, primary care services, social services and a wide range of other statutory and third sector organisations.
The applicant must have excellent clinical skills, be able to demonstrate anability to complete comprehensive mental state examinations, thoroughly assess risk, formulate safe and effective risk management plans and document and communicate these clearly and concisely.
We are looking for a skilled , experienced and passionate practitioner who musthave a warm and approachable disposition and have very good communication and interpersonal skills. They must be a team player, be confident and motivated as well as being flexible and able to show initiative.They must be robust and resourceful and willing to work outside their comfort zone in an environment which can sometimes be demanding and stressful. Appropriate training, daily support and regular supervision will be provided by the Team.
About us
We expect applicants to have experience of managing caseloads in a complex multidisciplinary/multiagency context. We also expect applicants to have experience of using formal child protection processes and being involved in interagency work with families. An awareness of current policies and practice in this area is essential.
Applicants will be expected to educate and train a wide range of health, social care and third sector staff so confidence and the ability to deliver brief and more structured training is essential.
Caseload allocation is doneaccording to catchment area to minimize on travelling time for appointments.
All applicants must have completed a Mentorship in Practice or equivalent course, or be willing to do so, as the Team base is a student nurse training placement.

Perinatal mental health disorders are those that complicate pregnancy and the postpartum year. The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service will offer a range of services for women who are planning to conceive , during their pregnancy and the postpartum period that:
- Have an existing mental health condition or personality disorder
- Develop a mental health condition or at risk of doing so
- Have become new parents and experience severe difficulties during the parent-infancy relationship building
- To ensure that women (whether adults or young women under 18) who are pregnant and booked for delivery at the local maternity hospital and/or have infants under one year old, receive appropriate screening and identification of their mental health needs and are managed accordingly throughout this period
- To provide supervision to the team of other staff, including midwives and health visitors, who manage one-to-one caseloads of pregnant women suffering from or at risk of developing mental illnes
- To provide on-going training, supervision, consultation and advice on mental health issues in childbearing to a range of professionals who work closely with this group of women
1.2 The service aims to provide a pragmatic and user friendly service where the post holder will take a leadership role in the further establishment, development and maintenance of structures to ensure the teams accessibility, excellent communication, excellent assessment of patients and provision of expert assistance and advice about the management of mental health issues in the perinatal period. The post holder will be pivotal to the establishment of the ethos of the team and to the integration of Perinatal Mental Health Services and Maternity Services through development of and maintenance of good working relationships and collaborative partnerships with the in-patient services
1.3 This will be achieved through:
- Embedding as a specialist nurse within in-patient and community maternity services to perform multiagency liaison work, offering easy-to-access expert advice
- Working closely with Childrens Centres, charities and other third sector organisations to educate, improve access and outreach to local communities. This would include increased home visiting and the establishment of community satellite clinics and a move away from hospital based services where possible
- Regular targeted training programmes which will be disseminated and evaluated for a range of professionals
- Direct work in complex cases with women booked for delivery at the local maternity hospital, providing comprehensive assessment, treatment, planning and review
- Attendances at perinatal CPA meetings, to advise and ensure procedures are implemented
- Supporting the establishment of peer support groups in the local community
- Supporting local antenatal classes to educate and promote positive mental health
- Setting up a virtual perinatal team of champions/named professionals, using existing staff within CMHTs, Psychology/IAPT services, Midwifery teams, Health Visitor teams, CAMHs, Children & Families Social Services and GP services. This will raise awareness and improve the knowledge and skills of staff locally who work closely with this group of women, thus improving safety and quality of the care provided
