Due to promotion an opportunity has become available for a suitably experienced Band 7 nurse to join the team at Horton Rehabilitation Service as Matron.
The service consists of 3 wards; 2 high dependency wards, and an open rehabilitation ward. There is a full range of professional disciples across the service. We are also commencing a number of quality improvement projects so this is an excellent opportunity for development. You would be a key influencer within the service and have the opportunity to steer the changes within the service.
Based in Epsom, Surrey, Horton Rehabilitation Service provides inpatient rehabilitation to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs. The hospital is situated within spacious grounds and is a short distance from Epsom Town providing good transport links, free onsite parking and access to local amenities.

Main duties of the job
- Will be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas providing assistance, advice and support to staff, patients, relatives, carers and visitors.
- "Walk the floor" and use this opportunity to meet patients and pick up clinical and staff issues.
- Be focused on the clinical area, with moderate involvement in broader divisional and Trust arenas and to have a strong profile both in their area of responsibility across the division and with corporate services.
- Be reactive to local problems and work strategically to resolve them.
- Strong operational role, ensuring equipment and supplies, infection control, appropriate skill mix and staffing.
- To ensure that effective patient flow is maintained and that people are provided care in the least restrictive environment based on a risk assessment
- Have involvement in meeting trust targets and priorities but not sole responsibility
- Line manage senior clinical nursing staff, who in turn, manage more junior staff
- Be responsible to senior managers and professionally accountable to Lead Nurse and divisional director of nursing.
- To manage all resources within the post holder's span of control and make best use of available workforce resources based on agreed staffing models.
About us
Horton Rehabilitation Services is based within three acres of grounds just outside Epsom in Surrey. There are 3 wards including 2 high dependency wards, and a community rehabilitation ward. There is a full range professionals working in the service to provide care and treatment to who are experiencing a severe and enduring mental illness. This includes a peer support worker and the use of our recovery centre as as spoke of the Recovery College.
We are part of the largest NHS mental health rehabilitation service in the country and accept patients from across North West London. There is free car parking on site.
We want to support our staff in developing their knowledge and skills so support training. In addition to apprenticeships we are also supporting our staff to undertake training in Family Interventions, CBTp, and Advanced Clinical Practitioner training, amongst others. We are also keen to support our staff and to that end have been running groups to enhance people's resilience as well as reflective practice.
We are in the process of developing our sensory practices and facilities both for patients and staff in order to support well-being.
