In this apprenticeship role, you will be working and being paid full time while you complete a diploma qualification under the university of Exeter, the full fees for this will be paid. Training will be provided remotely and face-to-face at a London location.

Main duties of the job

As an apprentice PWP trainee you will be taught a variety of skills including how to conduct an initial triage, risk assessment and the delivery of low intensity psychological interventions. As an apprentice you will receive regular supervision from a qualified PWP senior or CBT therapist while working in our NHS Talking Therapies services and delivering interventions in line with your developing skills and competencies.

You will have 2 days of teaching and training over the period of 18 months to complete the Exeter Training Programme. You will be required to travel to your team's base on the other days. Applicants will be asked to express a first and second preference for where they would prefer to be based (Harrow or Kensington and Chelsea) in their supporting information section but this cannot always be guaranteed. You will therefore need to be willing to travel to either of these sites available.

After qualifying from the PWP training course you would be paid at Band 5 as a qualified PWP. We are very keen to ensure a career development for PWPs and therefore provide opportunities within our services for PWPs at Band 6.

The Trust reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

Job description

Job responsibilities

For further details regarding the role and responsibilities, please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification.

As a Trust we are aware that entry to the psychological professions is often confined to those who can undertake unpaid/ voluntary work experience. Volunteer experience may disadvantage those less able to volunteer their time, in particular people from minority ethnic backgrounds, or who have experienced socio-economic disadvantage, or who are carers.

As part of our commitment to address social inequalities in health, we are particularly seeking to employ Apprentices with the drive to make a significant contribution to this key priority. These posts are explicitly intended to support the increased access to psychological interventions for groups of service users and the community, including people from black Asian and minority ethnic communities, who may be less well served by existing services.

Applicants with the valuable experience of the diverse social and cultural communities the Trust serves which are currently under represented in our psychology staff groups, including those with the ability to provide care in any of the languages of local communities, will be supported to develop their careers and flourish as valued members of our services. There are a number of support systems within the Trust including staff peer network groups.

Traditionally, recruitment processes select candidates purely on the basis of prior relevant experience and academic qualifications. This recruitment instead is designed to select candidates on the basis of their personal qualities and potential. They will be paid at Agenda for Change Band 4 and following successful completion of the course apprentices will move onto a Band 5 qualified PWP positions.

Please note HCAS willdepend on location

The CNWL Apprenticeship Programme is targeted specifically at individuals who may not hold a degree but must have a Level 5 qualification AND a minimum level 2 in Maths and English, and, who can demonstrate an ability to study at a degree level and are looking to embark on a psychological career within NHS Talking Therapies through our apprenticeship scheme.
