Job summary

We seek an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with highly specialist skills in supporting infants, children with dysphagia and complex needs. This role provides leadership to SLTs working within acute services at Northwick Park Hospital and child development services in Harrow.

Working with colleagues on Neonatal Unit you will play a key role in developing the Family Integrated Care programme .Working with pre-school SLT leads in managing a high-quality service meeting the needs of children and families in Harrow. You will have a clinical leadership role across the whole service for dysphagia, with responsibilities for developing team training plans to ensure appropriate skill mix to meet the needs of CYP.

The opportunity enables you to develop leadership and management skills while maintaining a highly specialist clinical caseload. You will have opportunities to lead projects within our integrated paediatric therapy team which has a strong multi-disciplinary ethos and established pathways with medical and nursing colleagues in both acute and community settings . There are excellent links with early help teams, local nurseries and colleagues within the Harrow Children integrated Partnership with local initiatives such as child health hubs, family centre development and SEND agenda.

Main duties of the job

This post is responsible for the management and leadership of SLT's providing services to Children and Young People (CYP) on the acute wards and Neonatal Unit (NNU) at Northwick Park Hospital and to pre-school children with complex needsin Harrow. He/ She will

  • lead SLT services within Family Integrated Care programme on the NNU.
  • co-ordinate SLT provision for children ensuring smooth transition for children between Acute - Community settings.
  • in collaboration with pre-school leads manage the SLT service for pre-school children with complex needs as part of Harrow Child Development Service .
  • assume delegated responsibility for delivering clinical governance across the acute service/ preschool services,
  • lead recruitment , line manage staff team and ensure systems for supervision, appraisal, and development are in place.
  • plan, deliver and evaluate highly specialist training to other professionals and parents/carers on all aspects of speech, language and communication with particular responsibility in neonatal care, dysphagia, autism and complex needs.
  • have a clinical leadership role across the whole service (Acute, pre-school and schools) for dysphagia. This includes developing a dysphagia team training plan, assuring appropriate skill mix is available to meet the needs of CYP with dysphagia.
  • lead collaborative working with children, parents/carers and with colleagues in health, education and social services in planning and delivery of Pre-school/Acute Services.
