Job summary

The Activity Co-ordinator role is a fast paced, highly rewarding, patient facing role integral to the smooth running and holistic offer of care and treatment on an inpatient acute mental health ward.

You will need to be creative and possess determination to continually improve / adapt and mould the offers of therapeutic , recovery and skill based groups in order to promote recovery and independence amongst our service users.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Good communication skills: verbal and written, English to GCSE or equivalent
  • Experience in facilitating groups and individual activities
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the needs of people with mental health issues.

Main duties of the job

If so, there is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as an Activity coordinator to work alongside the Occupational Therapist, Nurses and Consultant Psychiatrist at St. Charles Hospital.

We are looking for a person who can use their own creative skills alongside our resources (art and craft materials, food, gardening, music and exercise) and provisions, to engage patients and support them on their recovery journey.

The aim of the role is to provide interventions, using recovery principles, in order to improve the service users' quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead. The post holder will receive regular supervision by an Occupational Therapist and opportunities for training through CNWL Learning and Development and the Recovery and Wellbeing College. Staff are also encouraged to develop their skills through reflection and learning.

The post is based on a mixed gender ward for patients who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The role includes facilitating a programme of social, creative and skills-based activities to both individuals and groups which promotes social inclusion for service users. Activities take place on the ward and in the local community.
